Big Blue Finished

Image
Copyright Jennifer Phillip Daler Rowney Murano paper Paper size 19.5 by 13 inches Image Roughly 6 by 12 inches Derwent Coloursofts Finished! I really like the way this looks. As usual black is a pain to scan and I had to scan and put together 3 parts. Bad crop, but that is what I ended up with after putting it together. The image is pretty centered on the paper. I would love to get this framed but would probably cost a fortune. Unto an artcard now. :) Technorati Tags: art , bird , colored pencil , coloured pencil

Big Blue Goes Orange

Image
Copyright Jennifer Phillip Today was one of those days where time just seemed to fly by. Where you are not really sure what you did all day, and you are left scratching your head wondering where time went. Only worked on the cassowary for an hour today, added the orange that was on the back of his neck, looks kinda trippy in person. Added some purple to the blue for shading and just because I like purple, (actually the more that I look at the picture I see how much purple is actually on the bird). (scan might be a little off colour... it looks good on my monitor though) Tomorrows plan is to finish him (could be a her actually, I have no idea how to tell them apart), and then do a few art cards. Bought a new paper cutter because the old one had died and it was not that much more money buying a new cutter instead of a new blade for the old one. So now I can cut some more paper for ACEOs. *pets new cutter....ouch..hmmm maybe not* Also got some really good paper, so I can offer prints so

More of Big Blue

Image
Copyright Jennifer Phillip Better scan of the cassowary, worked a bit on it. The beak didn't have so much blue and brown on it, but I thought about adding them just so it ties the picture together. I really can't say enough how much I like the brightness of this in person. I'm trying to use as little layers as possible of coloured pencil, just as an experiment. So far it seems to be working :) Technorati Tags: art , bird , colored pencil , coloured pencil

Aardvarks Invading

Image
The aardvarks that I sent away for last month showed up. I think I am going to turn one into a highland cow, shaggy and with horns. Not sure about the other one. I was thinking a peacock, bright feathers. Not sure though. I want to take pictures of them in various places around town, but everyone is telling me that I will get some weird looks if I do. That doesn't bug me though, I get weird looks as soon as I open my mouth. I need to go to a fabric store and get some brown furry fabric, and while I am there I need to see if I can get some bright green fuzzy fabric. I really want to sew a bag, and need the green fabric as a trim and for the strap. Of course that means I need to get a sewing machine, so have to look around to see if there are any on sale. Big Blue Bird

Image
Copyright Jennifer Phillip The new meds seem to be working. Hands don't hurt anymore, still numb, but at least the pain is gone and I can draw again. :) Forgive the bad photo. Way too dark outside and the light in the room is not the best. I don't know how I am going to get a good scan of this. The image is on paper that is 19.5 inches by 13 inches. Hopefully I can get a good photo outside or paste the picture scans together in Photoshop. Or if it turns out really well, go get it scanned professionally, if it isn't that much money. I really like how bright the blue looks on the black paper, it really stands out. The reds that are going to be added should stand out even more. Even though I don't like using reds that often due to the fading factor, with something like this, where it would just look strange not to use, I have too. If I get it framed I have to remember to get UV glass and keep it out of direct light as much as possible. I have art thats over 10 years old th

Something Lives!!

Image
Some kind of flower is growing in one of my pots outside. Not sure if its one of the lilies, it very well could be a weed, but at least something is growing. My green thumb of death hasn't struck again *knocks on wood* Doctor switched my meds, the ones I was on were doing nothing but making me tired, and while I probably needed the sleep, I don't like feeling drowsy in the middle of the day. So time to see what the new meds do, and hopefully they don't make me pass out. No news on when I am going to see the neurologist, hopefully soon. Been doing some reading on neuropathy, it does sound like what my problem is, but of course it could be something completely different. I love how red this bush (forest flame) gets, but it doesn't stay that red for long. :(

Tulips

Image
Finally stopped raining enough that I could get some pictures of the tulips in the front. I'm going to give my right hand some rest and see if that helps a bit (typing with only my left at the moment, takes forever). Hoping the rain helps my lilies grow, if not I'm going to have to try next year to grow them. I'm still going to go ahead with setting up commissions and other business related stuff, I could always paint with my left hand if my right doesn't co-operate. :) And now I know why they say don't operate heavy machinery on some medications. Took what the doc gave me yesterday to see if it helps my hand, and I was out like a light. Dead to the world. John says I did say something but I have no idea what it was. Probably lots of nonsense. Atleast I didn't drool.

Hand Troubles Again

So my hand is back to its old tricks, numbness, loss of muscle control the odd pain. So no new art, even though I did start on that cassowary the other day, I just can't hold a pencil well enough to draw, and can barely type. Saw the doctor today and I have to go see a neurologist now. Hopefully soon, as this problem just seems to be getting worse (even though I thought it was getting better) and is starting to stop me from doing everyday things (trying to wash your hair with one hand is harder than I thought). So hopefully my hand decides to co-operate and I can work on that bird at least a little each day. If not, be prepared for lots of pointless pictures and possible book reviews.

Big Bird

Image
Copyright Jennifer Phillip Completed the line art for 2 drawings today, this is one. A Cassowary from a picture I took at the zoo. Really big bird that seemed like it was giving me the evil eye following me up and down the fence line. I love the bright blue colour of it. Going to colour it on black paper and I'm hoping that the bright colours will really stand out against the black. Transferred and ready to colour but I think my hand needs a break from drawing almost since I woke up. Not sure how I will scan this once it is done, way too big for my scanner. Might have to go and get it done at a professionals if it turns out really nice. Working on black seems to go really fast, just a pain to get a good scan or photo of. Technorati Tags: art , bird

Piggies!

Image
Did nothing but business related stuff today, so way too boring to type about. So here is a picture of some pigs from yesterday. Very loud grunting pigs. Cute though. Art tomorrow :)

Penguins!

Image
Went to Edinburgh Zoo today. Took lots of good reference pictures (in between the pouring rain), so I will have lots to draw. The Penguins are nesting so that was really cool to see, and they have a really nice penguin enclosure where you can also see them swimming under water. So no art today, but expect some penguin pictures in the near future. :) It was a nice zoo, really nicely landscaped and good breeding programs seem to be set up to help endangered animals. You get some really nice views from the top of a hill of Edinburgh, just takes a long walk to get up there. My feet are going to hate me tomorrow. Saw every animal that we wanted to but the tigers, didn't catch even a glimpse of them. Links: Edinburgh Zoo Technorati Tags: edinburgh zoo

Whinny Finished

Image
Copyright Jennifer Phillip 6.5x6.5 Inches Graphite on Stonehenge Finished the horse today, decided to call it Whinny. Going to try to get a better picture tomorrow as long as the weather holds out. Even though someone did say it was supposed to snow later this week. I don't believe it and the weather people are usually wrong. At least I hope it doesn't snow, all my flowers would die. Crocodile, horse butts, or more flowers up next. Technorati Tags: art , graphite , horses

Whinny

Image
Copyright Jennifer Phillip Two posts in less than two hours. Its a shock. Eventually I will run out of noises that horses make to put as the blog title. Worked mostly on my site today and it was John's birthday so didn't get the horse finished. I really like the way this is turning out. Forgot how much I like using horses in art. There are a few pictures from the fair I took that I think will make really nice pieces of art, so people will be seeing more horses in the future. :) Technorati Tags: art , graphite , horses

Website Changed

Switched my site over finally. Still need to change it so that the address bar reads fuzzydragons.com , not what it currently does. Typing in www.fuzzydragons.com sends you to my site, but its redirecting currently to where it is hosted. So I have to look into possible hosting options So have a look and tell me if anything looks odd or any links don't work. www.fuzzydragons.com I'm trying to write an artist's statement. I thought it was hard writing a bio that was vaguely interesting, or at least not that boring. Writing something that is supposed to be professional sounding and doesn't turn into an epic novel feels almost impossible. It is not a requirement for anything at the moment, but I figure if I write it now, there will not be such a rush in the future.

Nicker

Image
Copyright Jennifer Phillip Only worked for about 2 hours on this today due to my shoulder really acting up. Must see if I can get better pain killers. As much as I hate taking them, its not good for my shoulder to hurt as much as it does. On the plus side, I might end up with some really colourful paintings from taking stronger pills. Just starting to put down the first layer of graphite with a 4h pencil. Once I have all the basic shading done and added any markings to him, then I will go over any areas that need darkening. Tried drawing outside, but my drawing board threatened to fly away and probably would have ended up hitting someone in the head, or poked someone's eye out. At the very least someone would have had one huge nasty paper cut, and I don't think we have band aids that are 2 feet long. (Do they sell band aids that big??) Neigh

Copyright Jennifer Phillip Line art for my next project. Figured it was about time that I did something in graphite, so this has been copied onto Stonehenge paper ready to shade. He looks really happy here, which is strange because he looks kind of sad in real life. Graphite doesn't take me as long as anything I do in coloured pencil, so hopefully this might be done by tomorrow, no promises though. If I go to the Meffan (local gallery) tomorrow, it might not get completely finished. There is a show on that I really would like to see, possible report when I get back. There is confusion to which veggies that John planted are in what pot. I think until the vegetable gets dug out its going to be a mystery as to what it is because I am not sure if people here know what the leaves on certain veggies look like. Luckily we know where the rhubarb is, don't want someone to accidently eat that. At least with the flowers, we know what is where, but my lilies don't seem to be growing. :

Daisy Finished

Image
Copyright Jennifer Phillip 8 by 6 Inches Coloured Pencil on Canson Mi-Teintes paper (canary colour) Finished! I probably could make some areas a little darker but I am not sure if the paper will take any more colour (its not so flat looking in person). I really like how this turned out. Not super realistic but realistic enough you can tell (well I hope) its a daisy. I don't remember what kind of daisy the photo was of, we were just walking around town and I took a picture of a bunch of flowers and this was one of them. So the doctor thinks that I pulled a muscle in my left shoulder, and that if it doesn't get better in a few weeks come back, but it should start to get better in 3 weeks. Between that and my right hand acting up, if I was a horse I would get shot. Speaking of horses, I just watched the Grand National for the first time. Thats a lot of horses falling on each other and their jockeys. I have never actually watched a steeplechase race, exciting, but every time a hor
