365 Sketches #15

Image
Decided for this weeks sketches I would sketch some of the tools that are laying around, and really I wont run out of tools to sketch if I wanted to draw them again later on. There wasn't a fire extinguisher in the house or garage, and when welding thats not a good thing. John isn't welding in the house lol, its outside, but still should have a fire extinguisher. Now we have 2, which we hopefully wont have to use.

Surprisingly simple object, deceptively hard to sketch lol And we got snow today :) (turn your volume down if its up, its very loud and windy)

Weekly Book Wrap Up

Image
Another week gone by, and 2 more books read towards 100. Could take the day off and call it a snow day, spend all day reading, but need to do uni work sadly :p Thou Shall Not Use Comic Sans: A Designer's Almanac of Dos and Don'ts by Sean Adams My rating: 3 of 5 stars Good book with lots of info to go through. Dry material but written in a way its not so dry you fall asleep. Worth reading for anyone interested in design and not just graphic design. The Curse of the Pharaohs by Elizabeth Peters My rating: 3 of 5 stars Great characters, predictable plot tho 2016 Reading Challenge Jennifer has read 13 books toward her goal of 100 books. hide 13 of 100 (13%) view books Currently reading:   The Mummy Case (Amelia Peabody #3) by Elizabeth Peters

Seal Etching Update

Image
Can you still call 2 seals a pod of seals? A group of seals can be called a pod or herd or rookery. More useless knowledge to know. I would either kick ass in a pub quiz with all the pointless facts in my head, or bomb horribly. Slow going with this etching, because my back is killing me every time I try to work on it. Going to have to figure out a different way to work, might have to get the table easel out and see if that helps.

365 Sketches #13

A tiny wooden honey pot. You could put little things in it since the top does come off, maybe a few rings but not much else.

365 Sketches #12

No, the lino cutter isn't crooked in real life. This is supposed to be a pfeil lino cutter , the only one I have since they are not cheap but worth the price if you can afford them.

Throwback Thursday

Image
Very little me. Tiny hands look so odd with extra fingers lol

365 Sketches #11

Of course needed to sketch a paint brush. This is just a cheapo from a pound shop, but it gets the job done and I'm not too worried if I forget to clean it lol

I use to be able to do all kinds of tricks with a Yo-Yo. But now nothing but up and down and walk the dog if I am lucky lol

Day 9 and its a furry Highland Cattle key chain.

One of two rabbit ear headbands I have. And yes I do wear them and not just at Easter :p

A very crooked sketch of my pencil sharpener lol

Weekly Book Wrap Up

Maybe making a goal of 100 is more doable than I thought. Would be even easier if I just tarted to read kids books for design research lol Chew, Vol. 8: Family Recipes by John Layman Back to being very entertaining and funny :) need more to read and more Toni Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters Sometimes you just want to read a book to be entertained for a few hours and not really have to think while reading. This is one of those books. Peabody is a very entertaining and I found funny main character. The plot didn't lag at any points, the mystery was a little too easy and predictable, but still enjoyed reading it. 2016 Reading Challenge Jennifer has read 11 books toward her goal of 100 books. hide 11 of 100 (11%) view books Currently reading: Thou Shall Not Use Comic Sans: A Designer's Almanac of Dos and Don'ts by Sean Adams Sounds like it would be really

Seal Etching

Image
Does it make more sense now what this etching is? Alexandra guessed right with seal.  It going to take awhile to get the rock done before I starts on the seals. There are two of them on the A3 sized plate, so the rock is pretty big.

365 Sketches #6

Image
A nail polish container. My hands are way too shaky to put nail polish on now, it would end up everywhere but my nails lol Some people find it odd that I can draw when I can hardly write without it looking like complete chicken scratch because my hands shakes. Its either because I use different muscles when writing and drawing, or it just because I have been drawing for song, I can draw because of muscle memory. Who knows *shrug* And yes, I hit a lot of wrong keys when typing lol, really thankful for the delete key

365 Sketches #5

Image
A simple little shell. I think there are more shells laying about somewhere, so will try to find them so I have more things to sketch.

Throwback Thursday

That horrible flower pattern couch is back :p

365 Sketches #4

And the key from the padlock from yesterday.

Clouded leopard #4

Image
I have spent the last 20 minutes staring at this wondering what was bugging me about it. It is the eyes Well, not really the eyes themselves, it is more the markings around the eyes. They are wrong for the angle of the head. The eyes themselves are different sizes, but thats an easy fix with black, not so sure if I can fix the other problem so it doesn't bug me enough that I still finish this. I have made slight changes since this photo and will have a look at it tomorrow with eyes that haven't been staring at it all afternoon.

365 Sketches #3

Image
Small little padlock. I'm just grabbing what ever is near by, but will probably run out of objects eventually and have to use stuff from other rooms. I know there are a lot of tools I could sketch, so shouldn't run out of things to draw for the challenge. Some tool sketches would require drawing them outside tho since they are too dirty for the house :p

365 Sketches #2

Day #2. I really need to practice drawing glass, so thought I would start with a simple sketch and if I have time in the future, either paint glass or use pastels since they can be pretty forgiving.

Sunday Sketches

Image
I am going to try to draw one thing everyday for 365 days. I might not finish, but its worth a try and will be good practice. I am going to set a 5 minute time limit so that means I will have to focus on the main shapes to get a sketch done. They might not all be good sketches, some might be garbage, but I will still post them.

New Etching

Image
The start of a new etching and its not going to be a bird when finished. What is showing now isn't even the main subject matter, but is going to take the longest to do since its s big part of the whole piece. Might be easy to guess what this part is going to be, but it might not because its such an odd shape.

Weekly Book Wrap Up

Been reading a lot of graphic novels lately, been meaning to start reading Chew for awhile now but never had the time to. The Gods Themselves by Isaac Asimov My rating: 2 of 5 stars lots of science, lots of alien sex, and then back to lots of science. Finished it, found it pretty boring. Chew, Vol. 1: Taster's Choice by John Layman My rating: 4 of 5 stars very odd premise lol a guy gets psychic impressions when he eats anything but beets. And that includes corpses. Really liked it tho, gritty but not too gritty and for some reason I find it funny chicken has been outlawed due to bird flu and there are black market chicken dealers. Chew, Vol. 2: International Flavor by John Layman My rating: 4 of 5 stars great story, great art :) def. worth a read, highly recommended Chew, Vol. 3: Just Desserts by John Layman My rating: 4 of 5 stars one word review: POYO !!   Chew, Vol. 4: Flambé by John Layman another enjoyable, weird, funny, fast read :) If a

Added the background with soft pastels and am slowly building up the fur texture. I've already made a few small changes since this photo was take as the problems didn't show up until I saw them in the photo. Best way to see what doesn't look right in a piece of work, take a photo, failing that use a mirror and 9 times out of 10, you will see if there are any problems with the work.

Throwback Thursday Art

Image
Pointillism horses from 2003. Almost finished, but as usual I stopped working on this for some reason. I love doing pointillism, but it can take forever to put all those dots down. Its another art form I would love to get back to, but so many things to do, but so little time :p

Throwback Thursday

Image
My Aunt Kathy sent me some photos on Facebook that I had never actually seen before and in this one you can see my extra finger on my left hand. So I would have been less than 3 years old here, but not positive about the date, maybe around the fall since there is Indian corn hung up.

Clouded Leopard #2

Image
Starting to look a little bit furry. Figured out what to do with all the Prismacolor pencils I have that I don't use anymore. Use them on this paper since it eats pencils and I have nothing else to use the Prismas on. They are just sitting in a drawer or a tin, gathering dust since I don't use them anymore, so the next time I use this paper I will use them. I know people would buy the Prismas I have in a tin since they were made before all the problems you get now with them, but shipping them would cost a bit and honestly, can't be bothered lol

Finished Hawk

Image
So this is the Harris Hawk finished without the pen added to it. Looks OK, maybe a little unfinished to me, but just incase I messed up before taking pen to it I decided to be safe and scan it. Prints For Sale  And after the pen lines. I think this worked well, helped to make the work look finished. And a simple GIF showing the difference.
