More Alcohol

Was suggested these were too Scottish looking and the more I look at them, I totally agree so back to the drawing board to try to bring in something Canadian to them.

Of course when people think of Canada they tend to think of maple leaves, but the only problem with that is that the maple leaf is used on a lot of Canadian alcohol labeling already so can't have something that looks too much like something else already on the market. But now the design does go better with the maple beer idea.

I will probably move the text up slightly, I think its a bit too low on the cans. But I do think its a good mix up between Scotland and Canada.

I am probably going to use cans for the design but just wanted to see what it might look like on bottles. This project is going to give me more grey hair lol

#27

A Hornbill for todays left handed sketch. Its a happy looking bird for once, but kind of hard to draw with that big curved beak.

#25 & #26 Left Handed Sketches

The above sketch is supposed to be Coot. You do sometimes see them here, hard to miss the solid black colouring, it tends to stand out when on the water.

And a confused looking rooster lol

Arm is killing me and wish I knew the results from the xray that was done on Tuesday, but earliest will be this Tuesday. One of the xray techs did say don't use the arm if possible. Which could mean a bad thing or its just until the radiologist has gone over the xrays, will hopefully know soon.

Tap Tap Tap

When you hear these tapping away at trees it can actually be pretty loud, which is a problem when its right outside your bedroom window lol

Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree

Does anyone remember singing that song as a kid? I use to sing it all the time. The first time I actually heard a Kookaburra "sing", it made me jump lol Left handed sketch #23

Sunday Sketches

A couple of happy birds this time lol I really like how the parrot turned out, not a lot of detailed lines but you can clearly tell what it it.

I'm trying to draw a lot of birds with my left hand since I do draw or etch a lot of them with my right hand, I want to b able to at least draw them well enough they look like birds if I am stuck using my left to draw with.

More Beer Can Mockups

I think I am pretty much done with the front of the cans now, I need to add one or two small pieces of text to the front and then need to do few test prints. Going to put it away for a day and then come back and look at what might need to be changed.

It is extremely hard to find cheap blank cans to use for the final product, so I am just using Diet Pepsi cans or Diet Irn Bru cans since they have silver coloured tops. Once the labels are printed I just need to stick them on and hope they look OK. Still need to design the box packaging, but I have some ideas for that already so hopefully doesn't take too long to do.

Number Twenty

Its supposed to be a puffin, if you don't look at it too much it does look like one lol Not bored yet drawing with my left hand, and I will be happy if I make it to 50 sketches, anymore than that will be  bonus.

More Angry Birds

Two more angry birds drawn with my left hand. I think they end up looking angry because its hard to get curved lines with my left hand, so the harsh straight lines end up making things look angry at the world.

Blink and You will Miss It

A cute little hummingbird for left handed sketch #17 Don't see them here, but use to see them all the time in Ontario. Actually would hear them, but by the time you find where the noise is coming from, they are gone.

Not a Dragon

I swear this isn't a dragon, or some dragon bird hybrid. Supposed to be a vulture, he looks a tad startled lol I think I'm getting better with my left hand, its easier to hold a pen at least and the marks are not as random. I do like this scratchy style tho, so that will not change.

Sunday Sketches

Chris suggested I draw a squirrel, so here is one for number 14. I probably should have made the tail more furry.

A very long in the face water buffalo. I am always amazed at the size of these animals, look like they are just pure muscle. The muscles in my left hand hurt after drawing these, not use to being used lol

Messing Around with Fonts

I thought I had a font that would work with this design, but now I am not too sure. So begins the long process of trying to find something that fits better with the design. Nothing too modern, but preferably not anything that looks too antique.(1.2)

I like the white version now that I have had a few days to think about it, but if I was to use it on a can design I would have to add a blue background to it so the lion would show up on the silver cans. (3,4)

This is going to take awhile lol  (5,6) And this will probably not be the last time I post these, since I do like hearing what people think, but I promise to try not to go overboard and post ever single design change lol

Grrr

A fuzzy bear for left handed sketch number 13.

What other animals should I draw during the challenge?

More Beer Label Designs

Decided to experiment with different mockups to see how a design would work on different bottles. I probably wont use them because then I have to go out and buy beer to get the bottles to use in the final design and I don't like beer so it would go down the drain. I guess I could see if I could find some cider bottles that might work, I will drink cider lol

I actually really like how simple this design looks on a can. The white and blue look good, haven't designed the back yet. But I can still only work for very short periods before my arm feels like it wants to snap, but I will keep trying to work more with my left since as it is starting to look like the right arm is going to take awhile to heal.

None of these designs are the final one, I'm still trying to find what works the best for my idea.

More Left Handed Birds

A angry looking flamingo for sketch #11 lol He does look pretty grumpy, I think its the scratchy lines that does it.

Possibly a bit too ambitious trying to draw a swimming duckling foe #12, but it still sort of looks like a duck.

Lets Get Drunk

Well not really but here are two lable designs for uni. And my arm is is agony after spending less than 2 hours yesterday on this and a few other designs. Obvs my arm is still messed up, so no idea what I am actually going to do for uni because it seems that I can't work more than 20 minutes before my arm starts screaming in pain and that is after taking enough pain killers to knock a horse over.

So the question is which of these do you prefer? White or blue?

Mary had a Little Lamb

A worried looking tiny lamb for left handed sketch number 10. The ears might be a tad too big lol

Rhino

Day 9 for the left handed sketches. Pretty sure this is a Javan Rhino, and yes I am picking animals with strong simple shapes to them to try to make the challenge a bit easier. After a few weeks I will probably try to pick more advanced animals, but since its only been a week that I have been doing this, I figured starting out easy would work the best to get my left hand use to holding a pen.

I actually hold a pen a bit different with my left compared to my right hand. Tried holding a pen the same way in my right hand as my left, and I couldn't hold it lol

Sunday Sketches

Well, one quick left handed sketch. A simple Orca, easy to draw with the right hand, but a little tricky with the left due to all the curved lines.

Trumpets

An Elephant for todays left handed sketch. Probably should have drawn the whole elephant but that might have been a little too ambitious for the first week of the challenge lol

Weekly Book Wrap Up

Started to read War and Peace a few days ago, all 1,440 page deeding on the edition lol and I am actually finding it easy to read and like what I have read so far  (only on pg 103 so time will ultimately tell). I think I'm going to have to read a few graphic novels to try to avert any possible boredom from trying o read this giant tome of a book.

Managed to finish one book this week which could have been better by maybe making it longer or turning it into 2 different books.

The Zap GunThe Zap Gun by Philip K. Dick
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Phillip K. Dick I find is an author you either like or don't. I like his writing, and the guy was an interesting person to read up about but this book felt like it was 2 or even 3 separate stories just mashed together to make a buck (which could actually be the case if you know anything about Dick's life).

I liked the characters, even fleshed out the little they were but the solution to the alien problem just felt like here it is, couldn't think of anything that makes sense and I'm not going to really explain what happens in a way that makes sense unless you are heavily medicated.

I don't know, this book just felt all over the place, which is normal for a Dick novel, its just not done very well here.
