Fooling Around...

with patterns :) I really like doing this, take a simple design, in this case a little gear and mess around with it in GIMP. Some might see it as cheating making use of filters and pattern setting to get the design to repeat, but it saves so much time, I don't care :p
A ripple filter with the samed design, with darker blue circles added.
And a mosiac filter, with the and then I changed the levels to make the blue darker :)

  1. I don't think filters is cheating at all! I'm sure all the big designers use them. Cute pattern!

  2. I used to love taking a colored background and just dashing another color across it, then filtering the bejebus out of it to see what cool effects I could get :)

  3. I need to learn more about Paint Net, Photoshop, Gimp etc .... I've convinced myself I'm too much of a technophobe to understand them but they'd be an enormous help in deciding on backgrounds etc.

I like the design you ended up with

  4. Not cheating at all. Digital media is exactly that, a different media, no more cheating than acrylic vs oils. Love it.
