Throwback Thursday

Image
Kid John and his grandmother at a wedding. There are actually a few photos at different weddings were he is wearing tartan trousers. I cropped a person out of this who was smoking a cigarette (because I don't know the person). You have to love the 80's and the complete lack of concern about smoking next to kids. A seem ripper for todays sketch. I always end up jabbing myself in the finger with these, bloody sharp little end.

Too Much Brown?

Image
Working away on the Canadian beaver. Slow going even tho I want it to look simple, it still needs a bit of shading to give it some shape. Its a lot of brown but unless I make the beaver um pink or blue, not much I can do about that since they are just plain brown animals. Todays sketch is a plastic palette knife, I have metal ones but no idea where they are. Should show up sooner rather than later since the room is slowly getting sorted out.

What Sound do Beavers Make?

Image
No, really I have no idea what noise they make, and my head is usually full of really useless information. This is the start of a beaver celebrating Canada Day which I hope I get done it time, but if not I will still finish it. And the sketch for today is a custard cream ice cream that was melting so it was a quick sketch lol

Finished Ice Cream

Image
Finished the melting ice cream the other day, and really like how it turned out. It did have more melting drops of ice cream but I thought it looked too busy. I'm trying to think of a few other things I can vector colour and hopefully will have something done in time for Canada Day. This isn't one of the dogs toys, its a little collectable figure, but I'm sure she would want it if she saw it lol

Sunday Sketches

More of the dogs toys because I can't be bothered sketching anything else at the moment. This is one of those tug floss like toys and below that, we think going by the colours, is a pheasant.

Weekly Book Wrap

Image
Didn't read anything the week before, but finished 3 books/graphic novels last week. Still behind in my reading goal I do have a lot of short story collections I want to start on. Rat Queens, Vol. 3: Demons by Kurtis J. Wiebe My rating: 3 of 5 stars loved the art, story was ok, trying a little too hard to be "edgy" Children of the Storm by Elizabeth Peters My rating: 3 of 5 stars too many kids, too much plot recycling going on. Interesting to see how archeology went on in the past, gets my blood boiling tho knowing how much was destroyed and how much is in private collections never to be seen by the general public. Guardian of the Horizon by Elizabeth Peters My rating: 2 of 5 stars Might confuse people reading the series since it isn't actually written in chronological order, goes back a few years in the characters lives. Did it add anything to the series doing this, not really. Doesn't add anything to the how and why the characters intera

Melting Ice Cream

Image
Decided to add some melting ice cream to my ice cream cone. Thankfully this is easy to do since once you have the basic shape you just copy and paste it, change the colours and then change the shape slightly so the drops are not all the same. And the carbon monoxide detector from the bedroom since the gas boiler is in a closet there. The thing is bloody loud when we test it.

Tiger #2

Image
Continuing with the untitled tiger eyes. I always forget how long coloured pencil work can take. Enjoy it, but it is def. a labor of love.

Throwback Thursdsay

Image
Probably Johns first Xmas since there is a paper Santa hanging on the "bonny" wallpaper. Look at the pudgy cheeks lol Neither John or I drink coffee so we need instant coffee for when his mom comes over, so this is a sketch of the instant coffee can. Coffee just tastes burnt to me no matter how it is made.

Getting the Pencils Back Out

Image
I really wanted to get back to using coloured pencils, missed using them lol And felt like colouring a tiger again, and now that the background is dry I can get started on it. Of course starting with the eyes, since if those go pear shaped, the whole thing can look wrong. Sketch #152 is  veggie peeler. I went looking through the cutlery drawer trying to find something different to sketch and I forgot we had this, was hidden in the back at the bottom.

Ice Cream

Image
Sketch #151 is a tiny pink bunny from one of those claw machines. The actual thing looks possessed since the head is on at a really odd angle. The dog had never seen this before so was staring at me the whole 5 minutes, which is really unnerving lol Of course when I gave it to her she didn't want it. Started another vector art piece. Not that it is really ice cream weather right now but I can live in hope.
