Let it Snow,....

Image
well, its more like sludge now, but things were white for a few minutes before it really started to rain. I'm good with a light dusting of snow, really don't want the snow we had last year. Way too much snow for around here, people don't know what to do. 3rd pass, which doesn't look that different from the last one :p

2nd Pass

This is going to take awhile :p I probably shouldn't show wips of reduction lino cuts, one mess up and you really can't fix it :p Current count of prints is 6, but I might end up with only one if I mess up. These were supposed to be for a print exchange, but while I can get them done in time, I don't think that they would arrive on time because of all the backlog of mail from Xmas. hmmm maybe next year and at least I should have some nice looking prints anyway :)

soup!

Image
Cream of potato soup made with soy milk and bacon. A creamy soup I can eat. Do you know how hard it is to eat out sometimes when you are lactose intolerant? It can be almost impossible :/ Forget ice cream, only can have the cheap stuff that doesn't actually count as ice cream :p Anyway, Xmas is over for another year...Yay! :p And there is no snow in sight, double yay! Haven't really done any artwork since I went on break from college, but I have all kinds of ideas in my head. Need to make a mask, so will have to get dirty and gooey with paper-mache and feathers. Lots of feathers. On to the next year, where I don't really have any goals, other than finishing college...think that it

Sketchy Naked Person

Image
Last day of college before Xmas and it was life drawing in the morning and mixed media in the afternoon; which I missed as I had a meeting to go to, I don't think I have actually been to one of these classes yet this block due to meetings and being ill. I have a lot of work to catch up on, but at least I have a few ideas in my head to work with. I'm trying to be quick with life drawing, but at the same time you cane tell that it is still a person, its not too sketchy. I think I've found a way to draw people that I enjoy finally.

Boozehound

For someone that went almost 30 years without drinking, I seem to be making up for lost time :p Not really, but I do like some of the ciders you can get here. This one is pretty good, still love the toffee apple one tho Its not all odd drawings and alcohol here :p Pretty happy with this life drawing, yeah OK so the face could use some work, but I like how the arms look. This was supposed to be a wolf, but it looks more like a cuddly dog :p I have mixed media this block, so will pretty much just be making a big mess and acting like I am back in preschool :p

Yeah, take from this what you want :p An odd looking horse skull, very odd.

Back to School

Image
Still coughing a bit, but feeling much better than I was, so back to college I go. *starts humming a tune....* Lots to get caught up with, so out comes the watercolours as I can get stuff done quick with them. Besides the speed factors, I do really like the finished look and think I'm getting a lot looser with them with all this practice.

Making a Mess

Image
For sale here One dark purple print :D I think this look so cool :D I'm messing around with lino and canvas, really just making a mess with no thought to what I am doing, but there was paint left on the plate so decided to pull a paper print or 2. This is one of the results. And just so people don't think its all playing with paint right now, when I'm not coughing I am working on this leopard :)

Round and Round Finished

More of the carousal lino cut :) Here I started to cut away the lino, Finished cutting away the lino. Now originally I was going to cut away a lot of the block, have it so that it would look like a colouring book print so I could colour the areas in, but I changed my mind again :p I could still do that when I get bored with this block tho. One inked up block, sort of, needed more ink... One print proof :) Really like how the flower on its nose looks, might look neat with a gradient over it. I did pull a "real" print but its still a little too wet to take a pic of or scan. Hopefully tomorrow.

Year of the Dragon

Ingrid had sent me a link to a print exhibition and I had forgotten about it until she mentioned it again a week or so ago. Saw this ref. photo online and it gave me this idea. Probably insane of me to try to make reduction prints from this, but meh I'm full of pain medication so probably not thinking clearly :p

First snow of 2011 - 2012

*cough cough* This weeks dog is the Old English Sheepdog :) Another dog that if you want fuzzy and fluffy, will take awhile to groom. I don't think I've seen any lately, but thankfully you can not dock their tails in this country any more. There is no reason besides cosmetic (OK, if the tail is broken, I could see then). 1. Mab, our Old English Sheepdog , 2. Old English Puppy , 3. Jumping Old English Sheepdog on Ham Common (Copyright Dave Halley 2009) , 4. Laughing Dog And *cough* I have a chest infection :/ Since Sunday I have been mostly sleeping, actually, mostly coughing :/ Couldn't have waited until the 20th when college goes on break? I have to miss a week because I can hardly go 5 minutes without coughing :/ blagh Can't even really draw since I have to stop to cough :p

Done on drafting film. Colouresofts, I find work the best on drafting film, glides across the surface better then polys or prismas. Still not 100% comfortable with the film, but I'm getting there. I do like how if you put different backing paper behind the film, the whole tone of a piece changes.... Its too dark with green behind it, and I had red behind it, but you could hardly see the green dragon. Now onto a few dog portraits and to think of a few mixed media projects for college....

Round and Round

Image
Decided to do a WIP of how I do a linocut print :) Its either going to turn out or turn into a mess :p First I draw an image that I like. This was going to be another reduction print, but I've changed my mind since I originally drew this. But I still like the drawing enough to use it. I then put some tracing paper on the image and use a soft pencil trace over the drawing lines. You can see that I have changed the colours to different line thickness'. Then I tape the tracing paper to the lino. If you are going to be printing words, remember to flip them or when you print the block the words will be backwards :p Rub the paper with something hard, I use a ruler. This will transfer the lines onto the block if you have pressed hard enough. You then end up with an image transfer on the block that you can either go over with a sharpie to darken or just start cutting into the block right away. :) *crosses fingers for the next step :)

Snow??

Image
It is a little odd not seeing snow on the mountains. This time last year we had over a foot of snow, but no sign of it yet. Not that I should complain, I'm not falling on my arse  :p
