Test Print

Image
Quick test print to see if this needs more carving before I print proper ones. I think its OK the way it is, doesn't need any more carving. I probably could have left more of it alone so there were more feather lines on his head. And 3 more days until break :) yay! :p

March Book Wrap Up

Image
I doubt I will finish any more books/graphic novels this month so here is what I managed to read in March. Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds My rating: 3 of 5 stars I think Reynolds is one of those authors you either like or you don't. Yes he can be a tad wordy, but I blame that on his science background :p At almost 600 pages this can be a bit of a bore if you are not into space operas, but I enjoyed the characters, and the descriptions of the tech and main ship. The ending seemed a little forced, little too fast paced compared to the rest of the book, maybe an extra 100 pages or so would have helped. I don't know how to explain it, such a slow build up and then the ending was kinda like here, I'm bored with this, here is the end :/ Chasm City by Alastair Reynolds My rating: 4 of 5 stars Re-read but this was always my favourite book from Reynolds that I have read. I thought the world building was great and its not until the end where you really start to t

Finished Peahen

Image
This is def. an etching I want to use with the Chine-collé technique. Could use some really nicely coloured paper for the feathers since she still has colour but not as much as the male. And I while I was starting to feel better, (don't sound like Darth Vader any more), my lung is starting to burn again....

Throwback Thursday

Image
I wonder if mom would be more embarrassed this is a photo of her in her housecoat, or that the house looks a mess ;p (it wasn't, completely the other way :p) This was in the town house in Hamilton, on what would be called a housing estate here, not sure if that would be what it is called in Canada. For awhile next to that basket there was a cardboard cut out of Pinhead from Hellraiser . Scared a few people when they went up the stairs :p

:/

Image
From this, to this.... and then.... :( About 20-25 pounds of paper pads fell when I went to grab a pad from the top of the bookshelf, landed on my shoulder/neck and then on the model. I really hope I can fix it but at least I did take some photos and if I have to build it again, I have the Easter break to do it. And ow :/ I need a vacation lol

Almost Finished :)

Image
While I do like working bigger since you can get more detail to the etching, I like how quick these smaller plates are to work on. Need to cut a few more since I only have I think 3 left at 6x6 and a really big long plate that I will probably use for a dragon etching once I draw it.

Finished Eagle Lino

Image
Managed to get this finished today but won't' be printing it until I get the room straightened up a bit and no idea when that will happen due to the lungs,(well, I should say lung since its just the right one that is bugging me). And a rubbing to give a rough idea what it will look like. I want to print this in black and then add some colour to some of the prints to see what they would look like :) Now to finish the Peahen :)

Haven't Cut Myself Yet

Image
Getting there slowly, seems like a lot of work to end up with such as simple image lol Took a rubbing to get an idea of what it might look like printed and I guess I could leave it like this, looks like a Bald Eagle, but its supposed to be a Golden Eagle so will probably finish carving it. Still feel like crap, and even worse since my jaw is killing me and I can hardly move it....yay back to soup since ice cream seems to make it worse :/ OK, thats it, I want a complete parts make over, new everything :p

Etching Update

Image
Considering I can't do anything else besides sitting on my butt without getting out of breath, I worked on the peahen today. I think its coming along well consifering she has lots of little feathers on her neck I and have to figure out which  ones to leave out or etch and not have it too dark and turn into a big mess :p

Solar Eclipse

Image
So since John is taking a welding class at college, there are a few welding helmets laying around, so we were able to see the eclipse today and we were lucky, the weather was perfect here for it. He took a filter from a mask and took some green photos of the eclipse, which look neat. And without a filter, eyes closed I am assuming since he can still see :p

Throwback Thursday

Image
No date on this one, and I don't remember this at all, so I couldn't even guess the year this was taken. From the left, my sister (chewing on a bracelet?), one of my Aunts, a (Great?) Grandmother that I have no memory of, me with bangs :p, next, not a Grandmother but acted like one and mom sitting on the floor. I couldn't even guess where this was taken, nothing looks familiar or jogs my memory.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Image
yes I know it is missing a ' after the k, but it didn't fit right :p

Cough Cough Cough

Image
Yay I have a chest infection, so a week of antibiotics to try to get rid of it. Couldn't have waited 3 weeks when we are off for Easter could it? :p Anyway... finished carving the background away on an eagle lino and now onto the eagle itself. I actually find lino harder to use then making an etching. For some reason my mind has an easier time with hatching then it does with solid shapes. Its very odd.

Its a Peahen

Image
Sue guessed correctly that its a Peacock, well its a Peahen but thats close enough :) The Peahen doesn't get enough attention compared to her flashy partner, but she does actually have a lot of shiny colours on her, just doesn't have that show off tail.

Mystery Bird #2

Image
Easier to guess the bird now??

Guess the Bird

Image
Start of another smallish etching. And its not a raptor this time, I know big shock lol

Finished Tiger

Image
I did end up cropping this as I didn't like the way the left side was looking, so done! yay and now back to birds lol or jelly beans depending on if I want to torment myself drawing what I can't eat. Or I might draw Sky with coloured pencils, I keep meaning to and keep putting it off because that is a lot of black to colour.

Throwback Thursday

Image
Even as a baby I was pulling odd faces :p Growing up, we were surrounded by frogs, they were everywhere. That and chamber pots, old deadly looking toasters, and  those lovely macramé plant holders seemed to hang from every corner of the ceiling :p Mom collected a lot of what could be considered odd things, I think its skulls at the moment :) (fake ones)

Ow

Image
I had every intention of getting this tiger finished today, but nope lol Did go to a maxillofacial to try to figure out why my jaw hurts so much after the injections into the jaw joint, when it hasn't hurt the last few times I had it done. So, they think that I got a haematoma from the injections, and it hurts when I close my mouth because it puts pressure on it. So back to a soft diet, lots of smoothies and soup at least until the 7th of April when my next appointment is. yay.... well on the bright side, just think of all the weight I will lose :p I really, really don't want jaw surgery again, that was not fun. Did manage to work a bit on a eagle lino print tho, so the day wasn't completly art free :)

February Book Wrap Up

Image
Only managed to finish 5 books in February, well only 4 really, one was just too bad to finish. Choke by Chuck Palahniuk My rating: 3 of 5 stars uh... odd just very odd. Not sure what to think about it actually lol Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel My rating: 4 of 5 stars Thought this did a pretty good job with the story of what would happen to the world/people after a pandemic and the panic people feel before things end. I think the only thing that really let it down was the ending, pretty anticlimactic. Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas My rating: 1 of 5 stars I tried to finish this but its just a bad book, poor plot and even the characters were poorly written. so now I need to read an extra book this year to make up for this one :/ Fatherland by Robert Harris My rating: 2 of 5 stars Very predictable and I felt like the only reason it was written as the Nazi's having "won" the war was just to get people to read the book because it
