Cultural Identity

I don't remember posting about this class for college, but our main project for it was to design badges(buttons) from items that we think represent us. We needed to draw 5 objects, and its harder then you think to figure out 5 items/ideas that represent yourself. I chose, music (piano),wildlife (feather), printmaking (a roller), dragons (little figurine), and my Reibif injector for the MS.

We drew the items and then had to take a section of the drawing and design a badge from that.

This is a section of the piano which was then turned into the below for the badge. I really liked how the small section when duplicated is diamond shaped and it creates a nice pattern.

We didn't really have to do anything else design wise with the images, but I could not resists messing around in Photoshop with them.

I do design work a lot, how you can start off with a simple image or idea and end up with something that looks like the above :)

This is a section of the drawing I did for the Rebif injector. If you didn't know what it was, you might struggle to find a link between it and MS, but I couldn't really think of anything else to represent my MS other then a MRI scan or the actual Rebif syring.

This is the design that I ended up with. Another diamond shape, but not all of the badges were diamond shaped. I cut out the little holes and put a copy of the information leaflet for Rebif so it showed through the holes and tied the badge more to MS.

More messing around. I have too much fun doing this lol

My badges were to some degree very abstract since with most of them it is hard to tell what the original image was. But I like that since it does make a person think more about what they are looking at.

  1. Very creative! (I haven't learned how to use Photoshop yet!) You are right too: it's very hard to think of things that represent "you," but you've done a lot with the assignment.
