Self Portrait

There are things I like about it, and things I don't, but I'm not very good at self portraits, so over all I am happy with it. It looks like a bad school photo lol

Probably should have done it bigger, but I thought A3 would be big enough. I find it hard to get any detail with pastels when working this size so went with a very loose look.

This is attempt #3 for the portrait, I could maybe try to get another one done, but besides being due Monday, I'm sick of drawing myself :p

  1. Hi Jennifer,
Bravo! I like it...a lot. It's you, as if you're trying to pretend it isn't. Your shy nature is evident. Of course, you shouldn't be concerned about painting yourself...you will always be your best sitter and who knows you better than you? Almost forgot...you are the least expensive model you'll ever find! :) And anyone who finds self-portraits selfish or boastful or narcissistic is simply announcing their ignorance of art history. Nuff said.
I only hope your next effort portrays the bold, forceful and strong you, directly engaging the viewer.
    Sincerely,
    Gary.

  3. I like what Gary said about you trying to pretend it isn't you! The essence is definitely there with a hint of avoidance.
