Back to the Draft Horse

Its been awhile since I worked on this Draft horse and since I had nothing else to do, thought I probably should get some work done on it. Slowly building up the neck area, need to darken it slightly. Then onto the tack, which hopefully will not take that long. And hopefully its not another 6 or more weeks before I work on it again :p

  1. Hi Jennifer,
This is really good work. The eye is so expressive. I now believe the eyes are the window to the soul of horses, too. I can almost see this fine creature dreaming of working on the Budweiser beer wagon team.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you say something about not liking to paint portraits of people? How could this be true, seeing what you can do with horses, dogs and birds?
You are one immensely talented artist in whatever medium you choose to work in, or subject matter you decide to paint, draw or etch. This horse is but another shining example.
    Have a good day tomorrow.
    Sincerely,
    Gary.

    1. thanks Gary I would love to draw the Budweiser horse, they look so great with all the tack on. I'm not a fan of painting people, not really sure why. Just never appealed to me, maybe if I just focused on human eyes it might work :)

  3. I agree with Gary's wonderful comment. I didn't want to do people either, but look what happened! The horse is coming along beautifully!

    1. thanks Michelle :) I like life drawing, can be very free and loose. Not sure but I think having to make the person look "real" I find hard so avoid it :p

  4. Beautiful drawing.
I do not know horses except from photos. Never been around them, but I do enjoy looking at them at the racetrack!

  5. I just think of humans as animals without fur - helps with the human portraits. This horse is coming along beautifully but he's got his ears back (not a good sign) unless he's listening to his rider LOL.

    1. the rest of his body language was pretty laid back, not angry or upset so he might have just been listening to his rider. wouldn't want to be on the back of a horse this tall if he was angry lol long way too fall if bucked off :p

  6. I bet you'd be fine drawing humans, Jennifer. Gary is correct; you do each medium proud - including photography - and you've captured the nobility of this horse exquisitely. Have a go; you never know…!
