Sketches #309 & 310

Image
Weight lifting equipment, a bunch of weights on a dumbbell  and a kettle bell. I can't even lift the kettle bell lol, they are John's weights. So, so very busy right now but need to take them time to sketch or I will just end up giving up on the challenge and I am so close to finishing. Now back to painting, wish me luck because I am going to need it lol

Magazine Layout

Image
This was a very short project, under 5 weeks. That might seem like a lot of time and I have had shorter deadlines before, but we had to take our own photos for this project, which does cut into time needed to get everything finished. The photos were supposed to be Dundee based, but I can't walk (stumble/fall) around Dundee so was allowed to take photos around Kirriemuir instead, hence why my layout is heavily Barrie/Peter Pan based. We didn't have to write the article, but I probably could have if we had an extra week. 5 page magazine focusing on white space and designing for it. Might change things, haven't decided yet. Going to put it away for a few days and then decide if this is the final version.

Graphic Novel #5

Image
Three pages of line art for my little comic. I didn't need to draw a lot of detail since I can fill that in with watercolour and because watercolour can be a little unpredictable in what it decides to do, I don't want to have to fill in all kinds of little areas if the paint is going to do it for me, or not as sometimes happens. Love the unpredictability of watercolour, but it can cause you to want to tear your hair out at the same time. Page 2 is above, page 3 is below. You can tell I spend a lot of time drawing up odd creatures when you see the wendigo type creature here. And page 4 here. There are 4 more pages but I dont have them scanned yet to show people. The comic is all drawn tho because if it wasn't, I would not be sleeping lol

Sunday Sketches

Sketches #306,307 and 308. 306 is a bottle opener, 307 is a knife sharpener and 308 is a gingerbread man cutter. I sketched 308 as a blind contour drawing, so pretty happy the sketch looks like a man. I'm not as out of practice as I thought I was lol

Life with Sky

Image
So Sky recently turned 7, we took her on at 4 months old and 2 owners in. I figured it was time to do a bit of QnA, I think I've covered most things but if there's anything else, just ask and I or Jen will answer. Q. What breed is Sky? A. Sky is mainly Border Collie with probably some Siberian Husky or other spitz in there. Q. Does Sky have a favourite person? A. Yes, I'm the person she's most closely bonded to, then equally Jen and my Dad then my Mum. Originally we got Sky to keep Jen company while I was serving in the military but because of Jens disability and other reasons, Sky has bonded to me and will stick to me like glue if possible. Q.  Whats Sky's favourite toy? A. Stuffed animals / teddies or a ball on a string. She has a LOT of toys, but its saved our walls and furniture from being destroyed. She only clawed open the plasterboard once in our first place (easily repaired) and after that I bought her a pile more toys to keep her amused Q. Wh...

Weekly Book Wrap Up

Image
One lonely book finished this week, but I blame that on it being assessment time for Uni and need to get a lot finished/reprinted last week and this week . Assassin's Quest by Robin Hobb My rating: 3 of 5 stars Long, long, long. Could have easily been two books. Still, besides a few slow parts, the character interaction is the most important thing here. Fitz can be a bit of a whiner tho, so its the side characters I find myself more interested in. More world building would have been nice, but what of it that is here is nicely done. Graphic Module #4

Image
Two finished coloured pages for my short comics. I need to edit them more in Photoshop, but will do that when I have them all finished. The above page is page one and the page below is page 5. I am not painting them in order, but painting the full pages first instead of the pages with simple panels. I figure get the big pages done first and then focus on the pages that will probably take the longest.

Sketches #303,304,305

Another on of Sky's Barkday toys. A Xmas Robin that she keeps trying to rip the hat off of lol Metal puzzle pieces. Those really tricky ones that can drive you insane but one you figure them out, you are pretty happy with yourself. 60 sketches left to go, and then I am never doing a challenge like this again lol

Weekly Book Wrap Up

Image
Batman: The Killing Joke by Alan Moore My rating: 3 of 5 stars loved the art, but felt the story was too short. Interesting backstory for the Joker, but could have been longer. Comics Sketchbooks: The Private Worlds of Today's Most Creative Talents by Steven Heller My rating: 3 of 5 stars I love seeing other artist sketchbooks so this was a great book for seeing rough work, but too much finished work to have sketchbook in the title I thought. Still worth a read to see how people work and develop their ideas tho.
