Whip-poor-will
Left handed sketch #123 is a Nightjar but I usually refer to them by the name Whip-poor-will because I think its cute lol
#124 is a Woodhouse's scrub jay, another bird I had never heard of before and a striking blue colour in the photos.

I am always so surprised and impressed with your art. You are a true talent.
ReplyDeleteIs it whip poor will because of the noise it makes? Very cute birds, I am not familiar with them at all. Also I have worked out how to comment using my iPad, at last......
ReplyDeletethanks Nicole :)
ReplyDeleteyep Cindy, the name does come from the noises it makes :)
Oh these are wonderful! I enjoy your birds so much.
ReplyDeleteI like both of these. You inspire me to sketch.
ReplyDeleteA very good looking duo!
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing your wonderful bird sketches, Jennifer.
ReplyDeleteWe have a Whip-poor-will here and they nest on the ground.
I trod on a nest once because I did not see it mixed in with some leaves.
I smashed the eggs, do not know how many because when I say smashed,
I mean smashed.
Very upsetting.
thank you Lisa :)
ReplyDeletethanks Jo :) Glad to be inspiring to sketch, I wish I had the time to participate in the sketch group you do :)
thanks Chris :)
thank you Julie :) the birds blend in so well with their environment it can be almost impossible to see them if they don't move. broken eggs is a big problem for ground nesting birds since the eggs blend in too :/ sad but pretty much unavoidable
Lovely lively sketches.
