Harris Hawk Update #10

Image
Almost finished, just need to add some shading, (actually a lot). The head isn't white, so I need to add a lot of shading to that area and cross my fingers I don't mess it up lol  Tail feather detail, its actually an area that doesn't need much more work done to it.

Throwback Thursday

A couple owls from 2008 when I was experimenting with coloured pencils and Neocolours. I really like the Neocolours, the colours are really bright and they blend pretty well together.I think I stopped trying to use them together because I wasn't a big fan of the hard outline around the subject matter. Probably could solve that with a bit more blending tho.

One and a half more feathers to go and then I can start adding the shading. Not sure what I am going to work on after this, probably another bird.

Harris Hawk Update #8

A bit more work done on the tail feathers before my hand decided to go numb. Unfortunately my hands do go numb on a regular bases when etching due to the MS, probably because of the pressure involved and I can't etch with my left hand. Its not safe at all to use a very sharp pointy tool with my left hand, unless I want to use up all the band aids in the house lol Sometimes just taking a few minutes to do nothing can help bring the feeling back to my hand but not in this case, so I had to stop for the day. Hopefully get back to working on this tomorrow :)

Harris Hawk Update #7

Image
Started to work on the tail feathers. Lots of dark and light feathers to work on to try to make it look right. I was wrong when I said at the beginning of this etching that the pose will look odd until closer to the end. It still looks odd unfinished lol A close up off the tail feathers showing how the shading is built up with lines made in every direction.

A pointillism piece from 2009. Forgot how much I actually do like doing pointillism. Can take a lot of time, but I kind of zone out and don't realize how much time has gone by when working on a piece. I am trying to find some older etchings to compare to what I do now. I think I know where they are but still can't find them. Hopefully I do soon. :)

A couple more hours of work done on the hawk. The back is pretty much done besides the basic shading. Now onto the tail feathers.

Doggie Sketch

Image
OK, so this kind of looks a little too feline like, (I think its the claws), but its just supposed to be the basic sketch. Hopefully once I vector it, it looks more like a dog lol I like Dachshunds, but they can have so many problems with their backs now and tend to get a tad too pudgy if you let them lol. Still nice little dogs though.

Weekly Book Wrap Up

Image
Babylon's Ashes by James S.A. Corey My rating: 3 of 5 stars Such a big dramatic work up with the characters and the war and then...it just seems to stop. A bit disappointing and felt like a cop out. Enjoyed the main characters and their interactions as usual, even tho Filip is a spoiled brat. I will keep reading the series since there is usually one book in a series I am kind of meh about. Added more work to the back and tail feathers. I think they might need to be darker, hard to say at this point. There are still a few more feathers to add to this section and then hopefully its on to working on the big tail feathers.
