Wolf Etching #6

Image
Almost done, till needs a bit more shading to hopefully create a more 3d look but all the little tiny fur detail is done.

Throwback Thursday

Image
Etching from 2013-2014?? for throwback thursday I think this was the second one I had done, needed more practice lol

Another etching from 2014 for throwback thursday. This plate is destroyed, it melted after attempting to clean it with solvent (note to self polystyrene plates do not like solvents) so no more prints of this.

Another  drypoint etching from college from 2014. I did add a light wash of watercolour to it as the lines were not going to bleed being oil based printing ink.

An etching from 2014 done for college. I pretty much had free reign with the printing press so I spent a lot of time using it.

Wolf etching #5

Image
Getting closer to the end. Need to darken the neck and then add some general shading and then on to the next one.

Wolf Etching Update #4

Image
Almost ready to start shading the wolf. So much fur detail to etch, not as much detail as when I etch a bird, but still lots of fur to etch so he looks fuzzy. He could be a she, didn't get close enough to look lol

Wolf Etching Update #3

Image
He has ears now lol. This is a lot of fur to have to etch and I haven't even started to really shade him yet.

Wolf Etching Update #2

Image
Back to etching my wolf. Lots of little hair detail to make and then start the fur shading. Slightly different from feathers, but the idea is the same.

Wolf Etching Update #1

Image
The start of another etching and surprise it not a bird lol Lots of fur rather than feathers to etch but this isn't as big as the last etching, close but its a bit smaller. Slowly building up the fur details.

Falcon Update #17

Image
So close to finishing the detail and then the shading starts. Once this pone is done the next one is going to be a wolf. I know shocker, its not going to be a bird.

Falon Update #16

Image
I wanted to get the detail on this done yesterday but my hand went numb so had to stop since the tool is very sharp and pointy. I don't need to stab myself any more then needed. So close, so hopefully soon. A close up detail shot of some feathers, doesn't look like much this close lol

Falcon Update #15

Image
Almost done roughing in the bottom section. The feathers here are bigger so do not take as much time to do, when I can find the time to work on this. I will be so glad when I can start the shading and it won't look so flat. People might be wondering why I do the details first and then shade, why don't I do both at once? It is much easier to get proper gradients when shading if you are etching over the whole piece. If you try to do the shading bit by bit, it can end up looking like a very broken and really rough. Much smoother and realistic looking doing the shading once the details are done.

Falcon Update #14

Image
Almost done the bottom left area. Might have gone a bit dark but that just means I make the shading in some parts darker to compensate. I will be so glad when I can go in and shade the head as it looks really flat right now.

New Ponty Stabby Tool

Image
So John made a new etching tool out of a welding rod, and it is very very pointy (already stabbed myself with it lol) The detail I can get with it is great so decided to try it out on a new etching. These eyes still need work but its a good start.

Falcom Update #13

Image
Another small update since I am still working away on my dissertation. Almost ready to start the shading, hopefully lol

Falcon Update #12

Image
I will finish this eventually lol. Definitely needs more shading on the head since it looks very flat at the moment but I want to get the rest of the feathers done before I do that. Its getting there so should be done in a few weeks, maybe lol

Falcon Update #11

Image
Another quick falcon etching update. Added a bit more feathers to the bottom and a bit  more shading to the sides but long way still to go. A close up of the eye showing all of the cross hatching and why this takes forever lol

Falcon Update #10

Image
A small update on the body feathers and more shading to the sides. I added a bit of shadow below the beak area so that looks a lot better. I would have had more done today but I had a molar pulled and it hurts. I broke off and the dentist had to cut the roots from my jaw. I actually didn't think he would be able to pull it since I can't open my mouth that much due to the metal jaw joints, but he managed it since he a very good dentist. My teeth are crap lol

Falcon Update #9

Image
Added some more shading so the side bit isn't looking as flat as it was but it def needs more work. The white line down the middle of the face isn't on the plate, its just on the piece of paper I used to scan this lol
