Eye Spy ...

finally opened!

Shame its not ours :p (apparently you can take cuttings from them and they will grow but it can be hard sometimes :/) I took a lot of photos of this flower so will definitely be drawing one in the future :)

And Eye Spy... a scar (because not everyone lives in a place where it is spring right now and I couldn't make up my mind which one to choose. Go with the first one if it works better for you :) ))

scar on left handI was born with an extra finger on my left hand, was taken off when I was around 3 I think. Wish I still had it :) The scar has faded a bit the past few years but I don't think it will ever go away. There are pictures of me somewhere where you can see the finger but its so small you probably wouldn't notice it unless someone pointed it out.

When you put both my hands side by side, the left side is noticeably bigger, like there is a joint there but no finger :p Right now there is a little piece of something (scar tissue?) that moves up and down the side of my hand under the skin. When it passes by what I am assuming is a nerve the left part of the hand goes numb and really starts to hurt. But no idea what it is and if anything will be done about it. I am supposed to be getting it X-rayed but last time that happened nothing showed up in the X-ray.

I have a bunch of scars on my arms, some from the cat (one the same size as his fangs), and 5 little cuts from a punch that was used to figure out if I had von willebrand disease (makes a small incision and time how long it takes to stop bleeding). Scars on the backs of my hands from when I was 11 and had IV's when getting my tonsils out (the guy trying to knock me out could not get a vein and kept scrapping the bones in my hands. After he tried a couple times on the right he thought to try the left but as he was walking to the other side he tripped and fell on me :/ yeah I trusted him to make sure I slept the whole time. at least I didn't wake up :p). My hands were black and blue for a few days. A nice scar on the back of my right thumb from doing the dishes and not noticing a broken glass. Probably should have had stitches for that one, but couldn't get a hold of anyone and to top it off there were no band-aids in the house! Scars on my stomach from gall bladder surgery and exploratory surgery for ovarian cysts (which turned out to actually be scar tissue from the gall bladder surgery). Scar on my back from getting a mole removed. I think thats it, but I have probably forgot something....

And a small art update :) to get away from the possible TMI ;)

2 and a half hours later the beak is almost done. Still needs probably 5 or 6 layers and then I have to burnish it to make it look smooth. I am really trying to take my time with this as I want it to look right. I might have to have a few ACEOs ( Art Cards, Editions, and Originals) going at the same time to have a bit more art to show for my time.

I did think that maybe I didn't have the eyes lined up properly but the lines seem fine when I draw them on the paper, a slight angle to them but thats because of the slight head tilt. I think its that head tilt that is making me think that something is off with it. I know it looks so strange with out any feathers but those are going to take time as well as I want to show more individual feathers rather then just hint at them.

  4. Your scar description made me smile, thinking about mine, perhaps I know where Cal gets it from, LOL!
A lovely update on your eagle. perhaps the angle will look better when you have some feathers in, I think it is difficult to tell at this stage.
I must rememebr to send you some images across, I don't know where my days are going right now!
Interesting that you can grow rhodedendrons, I thought you only do them by layering/grafting, it just shows that you live and learn! It cannot be easy, they are too expensive in the garden centres ;)

  5. If the pain in your hand is nerve pain, it can be very difficult to treat (or even diagnose). Just think, if you had kept the finger, some monarch could have written a song about it (Anne Boleyn reportedly had six fingers and Henry VIII apparently wrote about the long Greensleeves she wore to cover them). Sounds like lots of scars which maybe could be described as patina. Eventhough we look for perfection, true symetry looks strange in nature. I hope that you are enjoying the process (of the feathers, etc.) because ultimately that is just as important as the final outcome(although it may not feel that way). In reference to Trillium, the common large white one is only protected in Ontario in parks and wild life preserves but in other provinces it is more widely protected. The smaller white bloom seems to be universally protected and the protection for all could be well justified as the plants are very sensitive to being disturbed. The rhododendron is beautiful. They do not grow that well here but they are beautiful on Vancouver Island where I grew up. I seem to recall that cuttings can be taken but might be fussy like most woody plants. I enjoy my neighbor's plants too because I could not possibly grow all the plants that I love.

  7. My lord! That's a lot of handiwork you have. It's great that you are all in one piece (and a good healer!). Thanks for sharing. I'm still not sure which I'm going with yet... hmm...

  8. chrissy- thanks :) I think the lack of feathers is what is throwing off the way the angle looks. no rush on the images :) don't rush on my behalf, and I'm still sitting on the snake pics to draw :D I know! even small rhododendrons are so much money!

Jenifir- yeah that is pretty much what my neurologist hinted at, that it would be hard to treat, if its even treatable :/ I knew about the thought that Anne had six fingers but not that Greensleeves might have been written about her, cool :) Thinking about it now, I don't recall seeing any rhododendrons in Ontario when I lived there, seem to be in a lot of yards here tho

michelle- aww I miss seeing all the trilliums :( thank you :)

jenaveve- lol yeah its a miracle I haven't ended up in a full body cast :p Looking forward to whichever one you choose :)
