I am sorry but the things we are doing at the start of this class are things that people should have learned in grade school. I know not everyone has the same education, but if you don't know basic shapes at this point I think there might be a problem :p

On a more positive note I got these coloured overlays today to help with reading and I am amazed at the difference they make. No more jumbled squished together letters that are blurry in places. See, people assume that since I am a fast reader that I don't have any problems reading but I never really stopped to think that the way I could see letters was odd or something was wrong with it. But I think I just adapted to read fast, the same way I have had to adapt when people ask me questions about left or right.

If someone asks me to point to their right hand for example I have to turn my body in my head to superimpose on their body to figure out what is right. Sounds simple but gets more complicated with directions etc. When I stop and think about things that I am being told, some things are really starting to make sense. At the very least I will be more informed with these meetings I am having, and that is never a bad thing.

  1. I'm like that with giving directions. I have to imagine myself in the street and facing the direction I'm guiding them to...only then is it easy for me to do the whole right/left thing.

  2. the overlays- is that because you are scotopically sensative? my daughter recieved colored overlays because of this -even tho she also reads very well they really really helped her = its interesting how it ties into various versions of dyslexia - she has trouble with writing more than reading - & come to think of it directions are hard for her as well. am glad yours help

  3. serena- thats exactly what i do :) makes things a lot easier

comekatt- I am getting tested for dyslexia, and the person helping suggested the overlays to help. hubby is scotopically sensitive so use to have overlays but lost them :/ I had never heard of if it before. Its interesting to read about. I also have problems with writing, but love to write. so i am hoping all of this helps. :)

  4. I have exactly the same issues with left and right and do the same superimposing thing.

What was your homework? And what kind of shapes were you supposed to be learning?

  5. really comforting knowing I am not the only one that does that :)

just different basic shapes and textures. Supposed to use the shapes and textures for future design work. Not learning anything new at this point but that be why I am having problems :/

  6. Jennifer, I do that too. Funny how sometimes you think you are the only one that does that, but it is nice to know there are others that are like you. :)
