Flickr Favourites March 29,2011

I love birds, and would have one if we had the space and the time, one day maybe. Maybe when crazy calms down :p This weeks animal is the Galah Cockatoo from Australia. I love the pink colours and they look like they have a smile on their face :)

Illustration Friday

I've never drawn anything for Illustration Friday before, not sure why, as a quick sketch only takes a few minutes and some of the topics that have been picked in the past have been really interesting.

This weeks topic is "Toy", so decided on a quick little dragon sketch with the dragon playing with little wood blocks. I did think about having the dragon have a cat in it's mouth, but thought that might be a bit morbid :p

Fruit Loops

Toucan Sketch For Sale here

I love my new pens. I love ink, and using the pens is so much easier than a brush, not to mention less messy :p I have to make sure I wear old clothes as I tend to get ink everywhere, and I mean everywhere. When I use inks I have a very messy scribbling style, its very loose and nothing like most of my coloured pencil work. If I had to choose between the two....I would choose the ink. Its not to everyone's tastes, but I enjoy using ink more than coloured pencils.

And you can't get Fruit Loops here :/ I've looked everywhere! You can get them shipped here, but its not cheap. But at least I can get Root Beer, even if most people around me think it smells like a cleaning product :p

Spring has Sprung

There is still snow in the mountains, but finally colour is starting to show up everywhere :D Its so nice feeling the sun on my face, if it gets any hotter, we need to bring out the sunscreen. One freckle removed a year is enough for me, as is 5 itchy stitches :/. The dog is loving running everywhere, and still manages to find the one puddle of mud in the whole of the park to dig in :p She has a visit to the vet tomorrow for x-rays on her back leg, so we are crossing our fingers the problem is something simple and will not hurt her forever.

I am still taking 365 pics of being 30, I manage to take a pic everyday, but I've gotten so far behind in uploading them I've forgotten what number I am on :p Todays pic, my eye :D Kinda creepy, but I love seeing all of the colours.
And a small update on the tiger. The angle of the nose is way off, but meh :p even if I don't like the way the final piece looks, I can always crop the paper to that eye as I love how the eye looks :)

Flickr Favourites March 22, 2011

So many people suggested foxes last week for an animal so this weeks animal is the Fennec Fox :) Another cute animal with teeth, that people keep for pets in some places. Not sure I would have one, but I can't really say anything in the argument over keeping domesticated or semi-wild animals since I did have a few exotic snakes (captive bred tho). As long as they are well taken care of I don't have a huge problem with it.

Eye See you

So yesterdays events did make it into the local paper, but it didn't tell us anything that we didn't already know. hmm I was hoping for more juicy details :p

So here is the start of another coloured pencil piece, but this one shouldn't drive me crazy with detail as its mostly fuzzy fur. I love using coloured paper, its makes things so much easier already having a base colour to work with. And it is very interesting how a change in paper colour can change the whole tone of a piece. This tiger would end up looking a lot angrier if the paper was a red colour.

that gives me an idea, the same drawing on different coloured paper. Like I need another project to do lol

Never a Dull Moment

funny pictures-And the Police finally apprehended the garbage bandits

Exciting day on the inlaws street. Went for a visit and the street ends up being blocked by a dozen cops o.0 A lot of people in the street wondering what the hell was going on until the cops requested that people go inside because there might be an incident. So being the nosy old people me and the mother in law are :p, we were looking out of the windows until they told her to back away from the window.

You know something is going on when the firearms unit shows up o.0

They did manage to convince the person to leave the house, and when they did, the person was pretty drunk. I did think it was a lot of cops to deal with an angry drunk, but they robbed the store down the street with a very realistic looking BB gun, hence the amount of cops that showed up.

Most people know each other in the area, so keeping something a secret is pretty hard. And I am sure that by now, almost all of the town knows what went on :p

Will be interesting to see if its in the paper tomorrow. So, so far on that street, there has been junkies running around trying to stab people with needles, neds attacking people with baseball bats and pipes, me predicting the person across the street was dead, more has happened but I've forgotten :p (probably for good reasons)

Feed (book review)

Blogging and zombies. 2 of my favourite things in one book, which is probably why I enjoyed this book as much as I did.The good news is that cancer and the common cold have been cured, the bad news is that your family pet dog might eat you. But hey, no runny nose or snotty tissues to deal with  :p

The books follows a group of bloggers as they cover a presidential campaign. Which might sound boring but the book is surprisingly fast paced. I have no interest in politics at all, but I never found any of the political talk in the story boring, but that might be because of the threats of zombies gate crashing. The author does a good job explaining how people now have to deal with the "zombie" virus, the constant testing for the active virus, the security that is now needed everywhere, and I love how people have had to rely on zombie movies to survive.  The author has thought about a lot of things we take for granted and how they would be effected if zombies ran amok; if no one can die? how can you have a death penalty?

I thought that the relationship between sister and brother, Georgia and Shaun (yay again for the ode to zombie movies), was well done. You could tell that they really care for each other. When a character is killed in the story you do feel a little sorry to see them go, but its a zombie book, it wouldn't be a zombie book without a few deaths. There were a few scenes in the book that actually had me gasp, I didn't expect them.

Yes there are zombies in this book, but its more of a horror mystery with a bunch of brain eaters thrown in. Once you figure out the "who" part of the mystery, there is still a lot of suspense to keep you reading. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series so I can see what happens to the characters.

Highly recommended for anyone who likes zombies :)

Wheres the fire extinguisher ?

Painting class today and things were going so well;
Nice bright colours, a sense of movement to the painting and then I went and did this;
Made a big mess :p It still needs some paint, but I should have just left it alone. meh, can always paint over everything if I really end up not liking it.

New Card

Done with GIMP, and it took forever because I am so use to using Photoshop :p One really isn't better then the other, its just a matter of figuring out how to do certain things in one program that you already know how to do in another. So what should have taken maybe an hour to do, took 3 :/ But I do like how it looks :)

I did draw that dragon to use as a logo, knowing full well that it is way too detailed to actually be useful, but I don't think it looks that bad here. Some of the detail is lost but the colours are what really matter.

So is it too busy? Too bright? Not bright enough? Any suggestion, any at all are very welcome. Even if its to say its crap, well as long as a reason it is crap is given :p

Its Official

I'm crazy. Ok well most people knew that before, but I'm on Prozac now, so I can tell people I'm crazy and not be fibbing :p The old crazy pills were not working as well as they originally were, so a switch was needed. Time will tell how the new ones work.

As far as I know, it wasn't this drawing that made me crazy :p but maybe it did lol I see things I would change, but I am not spending any more time on it. Even with a scan and me messing with the scan, I can't get the colours right on screen. Its a tad more pink in person.

Its time to focus on something else, maybe something without so many petals :p

Mr.F mentioned that doing something like this is not worth the time for what I might get if I sold it. That to make it feasible I would have to charge a lot. I know that, but it doesn't stop me from drawing detailed things like the above. I probably should, focus more on things that take a few hours, not a few weeks. But for me personally, when I am drawing personal art, even if it will be for sale, I don't think about the time put in to it. Not very good business sense I know, but when I get into a zone with art, I stop thinking about money, time, the phone ringing, the house burning down, I am just focused on the art. Not the time it takes and what to charge when finished.Hence why Mr.F says the words artist and starving tend to be found together frequently....bad business sense.

Having said that, here is the original for sale and some prints in my Folksy shop :)

Flickr Favourites March 15, 2011

This weeks Flickr Favourite features the Echidna :) Another odd but cute looking critter. I don't plan on having pics of only odd creatures for a favourite, I just want to post pics of animals that might not be known of, or well known.

If anyone has an suggestions for any animal for the letter "F" and beyond, please let me know. :)

Humpty Dumpty Jen

Wiped out walking the dog :/ I am all black and blue on my left side, so sitting down and drawing is a bit uncomfortable. I just hope that I don't end up having a MS relapse caused by the fall, as trauma like a hard fall can bring one on :/ I need to start a calender and mark all the days that go by where I don't fall on my ass...I think a week was the longest I've gone without falling down :p I am such a clutz

On Fire?

This is actually square and huge! o.0 I have no idea where it is going to go when its finished. On the ceiling maybe?

O.K The fact that I had never figured this out before made me feel like an idiot. Its so simple to make random knots, I don't know why I never had thought of it before. and YouTube occasionally comes in handy for things other than watching music videos and vlogs :p

and goats! Smelly things but still cute
