Editions?

The art that will never be finished :p

Slight problem with these prints, well its not really a problem, I just don't know how to label them. I know the basics on how to sign edition prints, but I don't know what to do when the prints don't look the same.
The one posted above I think is the best of the lot, but if things go to plan with the last 2 colours, I should have 5 finished prints, 3 that I think would be worth trying to sell. I need to find out do I label them as an edition of 5 or because they do look different, but use the same paper and printing materials they would be classed as monoprints :/ Its very confusing

  1. I cannot help you there...never actually making anything like it. Hopefully, someone will be along who can provide some feedback. However, they are cool :D

  2. Are these for a class? If so, I would ask the instructor. If it were me, and I am trying really hard to remember from YEARS ago :-) but you can label one or more as "proof", like have 2 proofs and then an edition of three. I also think there is a name for the best print, something other than a number (2/5) but I can't remember now what it is. These do look great! And when I did reduction prints there was always some variation within the editions too.

  3. I have exactly the same problem with my collagraph prints, they may be from the same plate but they can look quite different. If you find a definitive answer let me know! At the moment I have gone with editioning.

  4. I think they look really neat. I admire that you stuck with it till the end, I would have gotten annoyed and quit before it was finished.

  5. You could leave one as is, and then further develop the others in individual ways. I've been having fun using pens, and metallic inks, coloured pencil, and even paints. If each one if quite different, then they will unquestionably be monoprints. Or you can wait for someone to give a definite answer. I want to hear it, as I have plenty of prints that hit this grey area.

  6. Yes, I remember something being muttered about "Artist's Proofs" if something was a bit odifferent.

Wow these look like the backs of an amazing deck of Taot cards or something....

  7. so my teacher told me that they should be labelled artist proofs, so AP#1, AP#2 etc
