Almost done....

Well almost done the lioness, nowhere near down the background :p And once she is all coloured I need to go back and darken the values more, they are a little light right now, but I didn't want to go too dark right away. Almost impossible to lighten really dark areas of coloured pencil. You either wreck the paper getting the pigment off, leave a tape residue on the paper if you use to tape to lift colour, or you just can't get any of the colour off because the pencil has been put down so hard.

Which is why you tend to use lots of light layers of pencil instead of putting down dark colours right away. And coloured pencil tends to look better the more layers you use anyway, doesn't look so flat.

  1. Love big cats! She's looking beautiful - perhaps you could call her Golden Girl as she's definitely not roaring. What paper are you using?

  2. She's beautiful, and I have often heard artists say that it is better to do many thin layers rather than one fat one, so to speak!!
