Low Poly Leopard

Image
Made another digital low poly piece. Something simple but I think turned out really nice. A close up of one of the eyes, showing how the triangles work together to make the image.

Tom and Jerry

Image
Well not really, but still a cat and a bird.A cardinal, which I should have used my red pens with. And cheetahs always look so sad no matter which hand you draw them with.

Roar

Image
Left handed sketch number 3. Supposed to be a tiger but looks more like a lion, as long as it looks like a big cat of some type, I am happy with it lol

Tiger #5

Image
This doesn't look like I have done a lot of work since the last update, but trust me I have. Lots and lots of brown layers and the start of a pink nose. Digital is so much faster lol

Slow, So Very Slow

Image
I should have done this digitally lol The tiger as it is at the moment and I need to fix the shadow on the right eye and continue on with the fur. Things done in coloured pencil look so wrong anatomically until you get most of it coloured. But at least from taking a photo I can see what needs a lot of fixing before it is too late.

Tiger #3

Image
More work done on the coloured pencil tiger. Since this is a photo, the colours are a little off but once I am done, I will scan it and hopefully get colours that are truer to the original. I still need to darken the values and add more layers to the nose area, but I am liking how it looks. I had no idea what to sketch today, saw 20 pence on my desk and thought that will do. Its not that accurate, but works for my challenge lol

Tiger #2

Image
Continuing with the untitled tiger eyes. I always forget how long coloured pencil work can take. Enjoy it, but it is def. a labor of love.

Getting the Pencils Back Out

Image
I really wanted to get back to using coloured pencils, missed using them lol And felt like colouring a tiger again, and now that the background is dry I can get started on it. Of course starting with the eyes, since if those go pear shaped, the whole thing can look wrong. Sketch #152 is  veggie peeler. I went looking through the cutlery drawer trying to find something different to sketch and I forgot we had this, was hidden in the back at the bottom.

Clouded leopard #4

Image
I have spent the last 20 minutes staring at this wondering what was bugging me about it. It is the eyes Well, not really the eyes themselves, it is more the markings around the eyes. They are wrong for the angle of the head. The eyes themselves are different sizes, but thats an easy fix with black, not so sure if I can fix the other problem so it doesn't bug me enough that I still finish this. I have made slight changes since this photo and will have a look at it tomorrow with eyes that haven't been staring at it all afternoon.

Clouded leopard #3

Image
Added the background with soft pastels and am slowly building up the fur texture. I've already made a few small changes since this photo was take as the problems didn't show up until I saw them in the photo. Best way to see what doesn't look right in a piece of work, take a photo, failing that use a mirror and 9 times out of 10, you will see if there are any problems with the work.

Clouded Leopard #2

Image
Starting to look a little bit furry. Figured out what to do with all the Prismacolor pencils I have that I don't use anymore. Use them on this paper since it eats pencils and I have nothing else to use the Prismas on. They are just sitting in a drawer or a tin, gathering dust since I don't use them anymore, so the next time I use this paper I will use them. I know people would buy the Prismas I have in a tin since they were made before all the problems you get now with them, but shipping them would cost a bit and honestly, can't be bothered lol

Clouded Leopard

Image
Line art for a Clouded Leopard drawing from a ref photo from Jenny Dalleywater at paint my photo. This is on fisher 400 paper and is going to be done with Derwent Coloursofts. Starting to colour and as always I start with the eyes. Might get to work on this on the weekend but my to do list already includes 15 things lol

Throwback Thursday Art

Image
Two from 2003 if the date is right. For some reason I didn't finish this, which is odd because it doesn't look like anything is wrong with it. And a horse sketch that also didn't get finished lol

Kitten Update

Image
I really wanted to get this finished today but my vision has gone too blurry to continue. And now when I look at this, all I see are mistakes so don't want to finish it lol The eyes, while I like how they are coloured, look very odd shaped, which is something I should have noticed earlier. The thing is, they match up the photo, so either the cat has odd eyes or I messed up somewhere in the drawing. Oh well, I will finish it since its almost done, and then on to the next one. Or I could just crop the image like this, which I actually like a lot, so maybe I wont finish the image. Just crop it and call it finished :)

Grey Scale

Image
About half done with the kitten and the rest of her face is pretty much black so shouldn't take that long to colour. And a grey scale version which clearly shows that her forehead needs darkening and this needs a bit more shading on the cheekbones but I'm not sure if the paper will take anymore pencil.

Rough Colours

Image
I don't often start colouring the whole of an image, I tend to work on one section and then move on to the next. But with this kitten's calico fur pattern I need to know where the colours stop and start so needed to have the colours roughly coloured in and with this paper you have to plan ahead. You need to work in layers, so the chin has to be done before the upper jaw area is coloured, so that the shading of the lower jaw does look like it is under the upper. Ugh, really need to get the camera set up and video what I mean, since this is probably hard to understand. *reminder to myself-get camera set up :p And my stitches came out today, so no more pulling, yay! Took him awhile to get them all out, but it would with 30 of them to cut away. Then we got into a discussion of why the cops are so obsessed with the number of stitches a person has, when it really doesn't make a huge difference. There are so many variables to the amount of stitches a wound might need or not ...

Kitten Update

Image
Well its good to know that if the vision in my left eye doesn't improve I can still colour. When they replace your TMJ, nerves near it can get damaged and cause facial paralyses. Happened the first time, and while I still can't move my eyebrow, the feeling on the right side of my face has come back about 80%, still numb to touch tho. This time, my left eye is not closing all the way and my vision has gone to crap so lots of mistyping lol But still possible to make art, even tho probably not a good idea to etch right now, sharp pointy tools and messed up vision don't go well together. Could have gotten an eye patch to try to help with the eye, I could have been a pirate for Halloween :D

Kitten #1

Image
I started this kitten last night, its the calico from an etching I did. Will have to think of a title for this since I plan on trying to enter it in an art book along with 2 others.

Finished Tiger

Image
Finished the tiger today, and pretty happy with how it turned out. Spraying it with fixative darkened the colours slightly, but for the better I think. Sometimes spraying with fixative can be risky, the colours can change to the oddest shades sometimes, but since I had no plan really for this piece I wasn't too worried if the colours changed. And a close up scan of the eye area. This paper is rough and I think you can tell that here with the pencil texture being so rough in the scan. Now, back to etching :)

Tiger Fur

Image
So much fur....:p
