Finished Dragon

One finished dragon head. And yes I realize a lot of my dragons look the same :p No matter how hard I try to make them look different, they end up similar. I start out with an idea of the dragon in my head, but it never ends up looking the way I want. Maybe if I tried painting a dragon it might look different..or my luck it still would look the same :p

  1. Love it! I am really drawn to the detail you put into it's snout.

Try picking up a 'how to draw dragons' book and loose sketching the dragon heads in there, might help you get a feel for doing a different kind of dragon. 'Dragonart' and 'Dragonart Evolution' are my two favorites for ideas :)

  2. Nice! :) There is nothing wrong with having your dragons with a similar look. That is just how you envision them. But it is also fun to experiment! Try looking at other animals too, not just reptiles for a reference. I did a dragon once with a head that was more lion than lizard. That's the beauty of fantasy art: anything goes! :) Old statues and gargoyles are also great sources for inspiration.

    1. thanks :) ooh a lion is a good idea to use when drawing a dragon. i have been collecting refs of all kinds of gargoyles, should use them for refs, drawing dragons but usually just use them for the stone textures
