1 Down....

Image
2 more to go.... These will be used more like stamps to put over different coloured backgrounds. And I want to drive myself insane and do a reduction print for the Jabberwocky poem, just not sure if I will have enough time to.

Tiger WIP #3?

Image
Not feeling the best today, but did manage to get some work done on the Tiger. hmm can see something that needs fixing. It does sometimes help seeing the art on a screen, when you don't have a mirror handy, you can still see what is wrong by looking at a computer screen.

Music Monday

Image
Really want to see this band live, the live album I have of theirs is one of my favourites.

Eye See you

Image
Started to colour the Tiger, starting with the eye as usual. Still needs some shading before its close to being done, but its getting there. This is on Mat board, which I am really liking working on;enough texture that coloured pencils work well, but its not taking 20+ layers to get an effect like it would on Stonehenge paper.

Cool

Image
Test print for college, using an excerpt from the "Jabberwocky Poem".  After every pulled print I have been saying cool, probably getting annoying :p I think this would actually be more effective if it was bigger, not sure how I would do that yet tho....*puts thinking cap on*

Finished Line Art

Image
Finished line art for the Tiger.  I haven't tried to do any work with coloured pencil this big since high school, so who knows how long it will take. Its A3, which isn't huge, but for coloured pencils it is, (at least for me :p).

Still Making a Mess

Image
I was told something in class that really made my day :D Related to printmaking and let me know I am on the right track art wise, so I can keep making a mess :p 3 dragons hidden in this print, that was really just printed as an after thought to get the paint off the plate and not waste it.

Making a Mess

Image
A very neat looking mess tho :) Kind of reminds me of batik work, I like it. Expect a lot of gelli printing in the future,(partly to get my monies worth out of the plate :p)

Don't Run with Scissors

Image
Started to draw the line art for a Tiger, which will be done in coloured pencil. Its bigger then I normally work, but figure now that I have the bigger scanner, I can work bigger. I want to spend a bit longer than I normally do on the line art, just to make sure that things line up properly.    Cutting out stencils and trying not to chop a finger off :p

Ravens

Image
A double page spread from one of my sketchbooks. With a plate on the right, ready to be printed but I don't have a press to print it. hmmm if only I had an extra few thousand pounds and room for a press :p

Hyena WIP

Image
One of those animals you either like or don't :p I think they are cute, and actually very interesting animals that get a bad rap,(yeah in some cases its justified, but they need to eat too). This one is very fuzzy, and that makes it look like it has a bit of a mohawk going on in the line art :p

Jabberwocky??

Image
Drew a design for a Jabberwocky,(and yes its very dragon like :p), and then scanned it so I could mess around with the image in photoshop. I really like how this filter looks, I think it would work really well for an image to print in just black and white. I figured I might as well relate the Jabberwocky to what I like drawing, just include the few details given in the poem about the Jabberwocky to try to tie the creature more to the poem.

Bring back my Pencils

Image
I will be the first to admit that I am not a painter, never really have been, (other then with watercolours), and I am really am not that torn up about it :p But we do have to use paint, and for one of the classes we have to base the painting on what we made last block. Its supposed to be very basic, focusing on shapes, and this still needs work before I would call it even close to being finished. This is what I made last block: A 3D assemblage using part of an old shed door that had been laying in the backyard for over a year. Junk turned into art....not my type of art but art none the less :p (yeah its a little bit macabre :p) I might not like everything we do on the course, but I do find it is helping me see ideas in random things more, and I am learning about artists I never heard of before, so that can only be a good thing. Now I'm curious if anyone can figure out what this door is referring to? Will be very impressed if someone does guess :)

Little Print

Image
A little lino print of a design of a Jubjub bird. I needed a simple small lino to use for testing out different papers, so figured might as well make one. The Jubjub bird isn't really physically described in any of the books, so you can make it look how ever you want. He kinda looks angry :p

Mistakes Happen

Image
So I messed up the feathers on the Toucan, but it happens so I'm not mad, and I can just crop what I do like.  For Sale   Fixed now. :)

Easter Dragons

Image
Prints Its an old drawing, but one I have always liked and it is what started me drawing holiday dragons. Hopefully I get some time this week to draw an updated version, change some thing I never liked. I haven't been able to get a scan of it before, so the new scanner is really its self useful :)

Jubjub Bird

Image
So for this course we have to do a graded unit. We were given 5 themes and from them we have to think of ideas for a final piece. After making a bunch of mind maps,(really not my favourite thing to do), I ended up with using Alice in Wonderland as an idea, which then led to doing something based on the Jabberwocky poem.  I need to design the creatures in the poem, a Jubjub bird, badger and the Jabberwocky and this is one sketchy idea for the bird. I also drew designs for the body of the bird, which is sort of pointless since it will be sitting in a tree and you will not see it.  Haven't decided yet if I want the Jabberwocky to be reptile based, or mix a bunch of animals together. Since most of the creatures used in the poem are not described, you could have them look like anything you wanted.  Its not due for another 12 weeks, but its a lot of work to get done if you want to get an A, and a lot of art Unis will not even think of looking at your portfolio ...

Watercolour

Image
Drawn just with the brush, looks like I made her have a skin disease :p Enjoyed just drawing without lines tho, so will be doing it again :)

Ink Everywhere

Image
Well, not this time but I have spilt a whole jar of Indian Ink all over my desk and myself in high school. That was fun cleaning up *rolls eyes* I love using ink dip pens :) I think its the unpredictability and how final the marks are. Still working away at the Toucan :) I am going to try really hard with the next coloured pencil piece to do a background, and not just use the colour of the paper :p Even though its starting to be my style of working, leaving the colour of the paper, I think a challenge would be good. I draw backgrounds when I use graphite, so its about time I did with coloured pencils.

Music Monday

Image
I know I already posted a video for P!nk and for Fun, but I love this song and they both sing great :D

Ok so I lied...

Image
Prints for sale Said I wasn't going to post the fish again, but got a better scan of them, so here they are again :p I still have the plate I used, minus the red printed areas, so I will probably do something with it, just not sure what yet. Mixed media printing?

Don't Drop It...

Image
would break your foot if it fell on it. An A3 Printer... also a scanner. Now I can scan a lot of art I couldn't before. Was a lot cheaper getting a printer/scanner/fax machine then it was getting just the scanner. And I have been asked many times how big A3 paper is, its 16.5 x 11.7 Inches. Here is a list of A series paper sizes, used in most of the world, except North America and Mexico. Have to clear the desk now...hmmm that might take awhile :p
