Book Review-The 5th Wave

The 5th Wave (The 5th Wave #1) byRick Yancey

OK, the writing is not very good, but I still liked this book. Sometimes you just want to read a book where you don't have to think.

Typical alien invasion story; mother ship shows up, and then people start dying. There is a huge Body Snatchers influence, which is an idea that has been done to death. (not really a spoiler since it is covered/hinted at in the start of the book)

A quick read, that I found only really lagged when the love story was developed. Not every YA story needs a love interest, or a love triangle,(which I am sure will happen in the next book). If you get rid of the love story and stick to the protagonist's main guest, I probably would have rated this story higher. I thought the ending was fast paced and did have me rooting for the main character to succeed, but then the love story reared its ugly head, and I just wanted to skip that part again. I do want to read the next one, very interested in reading what the aliens will do next, now that people know of their plans.

2.5/5 Stars

  1. Cool - I like YA books. Is it appropriate for an 11 year old? Looking for ideas for my niece...

  2. I like YA books because they often DON"T have a silly romantic triangle. Maybe I could just skim over those parts???
