Weekly Book Wrap-Up August 15,2015

Almost finished 3 books while I was in the hospital, because really what else is there to do when you are not a T.V. fan but read?

H is for HawkH is for Hawk by Helen Macdonald
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

First half of this book I found enjoyable, interesting and it was wonderfully written and then I thought it got really bogged down with going back and forth to T.H. White's story. The story couldn't really make up its mind if it was a story about grief or falconry,or a short bio of White's life. The 3 different parts off this story just didn't work well together.
but worth a read if you are a fan of birds just to see how difficult it can be to train one

Elizabeth Is MissingElizabeth Is Missing by Emma Healey
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Clever writing, you really do get a good sense of what is happening to Maud as her dementia worsens, the writing gets confusing at points, but that could have been the point to help illustrate how confused Maud is, (or the hospital meds from my surgery :p). The ending tho was too quick and abrupt, seemed like the author ran out of what to write. Possibly be hard to read if a family member has dementia since it can at times be very realistic as to what can happen

A Man Called OveA Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Really liked the humor and all the different characters. Typical story about a grumpy old man, (I don't really think 59 is that old tho), who changes his life and those around him. So very stereotypical but sometimes you just want a quick enjoyable fast read that makes you smile :)

The City & the CityThe City & the City by China Miéville
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Other than feeling like the ending was a little rushed compared to the rest of the story, I really enjoyed this story of two cities in one place. And lots of Canadian characters, so yay :p

Its a detective story with scifi elements thrown in the mix, and I thought the combination was done really well.

Only two books planned for this week since I do have a summer project for Uni I need to try to finish. But the project is book related so expext book related art soon :)

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov

Figured it was about time I read this book which causes so much love and hate in people. Only on page 70, but this is beautifully written.
Mr.Mercedes by Stephen King

I have been reading King since I was probably 12, so have been a  long time fan, I enjoy his stories. But the man cannot write an ending lately. I have been so disappointed by the endings in the last few books of his I have read I am about ready to find another horror writer to read. So I am crossing my fingers that this one is at least OK. Not expecting a mind blowing ending, would just be happy with an OK one :p
