Weekly Book Wrap Up

The FiremanThe Fireman by Joe Hill
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

While parts of this could have probably been cut out, it was a quick read that I couldn't put down. The main characters could have maybe been fleshed out a bit more, but I did feel like you do care what happens to them. The big reveal at the end you could have seen coming a mile off it is used so much in fiction and in movies.
Can really tell how much his dad influenced the novel if you have read earlier King stories.

'Salem's Lot'Salem's Lot by Stephen King
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Way before King's writing got way too stupid/pretentious, you have a great little dracula retelling. Yes, could have been shorter, he does have a habit of including detail that does not matter at all, (ok so maybe he has been really pretentious his whole writing career :p), but over all the story is interesting, and good quick look into small town life and its characters. The main characters are actually pretty boring compared to the town's inhabitants.

  2. Great reviews, Jen. I remember starting to watch a mini-series of Salem's Lot starring David Soul way back in the early 80's but I only ever saw the one episode. The TV station never aired more, much to my disappointment. My pet peeve about Stephen King was also his penchant for going into way too much descriptive detail, then some of his books were really weird and boring. I liked his book, Misery. As you know, I'm a Dean Koontz fan but only of his earlier stuff. He was my first introduction to horror novels. I felt Koontz's later novels were getting too much like Stephen King with the over-descriptive, unnecessary text. I still read them but some have been quite disappointing.

    1. Misery was a good book with an even better movie, but most King based movies don't work well lol

the books after the bad accident have gotten a lot more wordy if possible :p

I liked Koontz as a kid, but they started to all seem to similar after awhile but still enjoyed them for what they were :)

  3. I am not such a big King book fan, but did he write the story for Shawshank Redemption and Haven too.
