Weekly Book Wrap Up

Started to read War and Peace a few days ago, all 1,440 page deeding on the edition lol and I am actually finding it easy to read and like what I have read so far  (only on pg 103 so time will ultimately tell). I think I'm going to have to read a few graphic novels to try to avert any possible boredom from trying o read this giant tome of a book.

Managed to finish one book this week which could have been better by maybe making it longer or turning it into 2 different books.

The Zap GunThe Zap Gun by Philip K. Dick
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Phillip K. Dick I find is an author you either like or don't. I like his writing, and the guy was an interesting person to read up about but this book felt like it was 2 or even 3 separate stories just mashed together to make a buck (which could actually be the case if you know anything about Dick's life).

I liked the characters, even fleshed out the little they were but the solution to the alien problem just felt like here it is, couldn't think of anything that makes sense and I'm not going to really explain what happens in a way that makes sense unless you are heavily medicated.

I don't know, this book just felt all over the place, which is normal for a Dick novel, its just not done very well here.

  1. I feel like I've read one of his books before, but I can't quite remember... Nicely written review.

  2. Lisa, you might have read something by him or watched a movie based on something he wrote. a lot of his stuff was used for movie scripts, Blade Runner, Minority Report, A Scanner Darkly off the top of my head

  3. I have read a few of his books and I like his writing. The trouble with W&P and lots of sci-fi and fantasy books for me is the names. I never actually pronounce them in my mind, I just see the letters and recognised them as that person. Also, if there are too many names I give up!!!! Best of luck.
