Pen Review

So I went and bought new pens/markers to try sine I have been hearing great things about them. Bought a black set of Derwent Graphik Line Markers and a coloured set of their Line Painter pens.

Put the black pens to the test first. Very nice and dark and no ink blobs or spluttering from the pen nibs. The pens flowed well, didn't get stuck on the paper like some other brands can. There were 3 in the pack, 0.1, 0.3, and 0.5 so its easy to get detailed work. Would have been nice to have a brush option to fill in big areas with but I guess you could just use a lot of hatching for that. Would probably get these over the Pitt pens I normally use, the price is about the same and even cheaper in some places with my student discount.

Will review the coloured ones in a few days once I try them on different types of paper.

*edited* Forgot to mention that if the lines from these pens get wet, they will run so if you don't want that to happen, stick to Pitt pens. :)

  1. Interesting, I am a Pitt pen addict and I do really love the brush one. I see the Derwent Graphik Line Makers are water based, does that mean the line won't stay put if you paint wet media over it?
Looking forward to the coloured pen review!

    1. thank you for reminding me about that, edited the entry to talk about it :) yeah they will run, but not sure how much, haven't tried using a wet brush on them yet.
Love the Pitt pens but have been having problems with the really fine pen nibs bending with the way I work :/ Not a lot of pressure, just really really quick lines

    2. I am too rough on the Pitt fine nibs and ruin them very quickly, sorry it happens with more delicate work too :(

Thanks for answering my query, I will still give them a try, sometimes I like runs!

  2. Thanks Jennifer for the excellent review. It's good to know they are not waterproof as well.

  4. Hi Jennifer,
"Spluttering"...is that another Canadian word-of-the-day? I plan on using it whenever the opportunity presents itself. It's a great word and evokes exactly what you meant it to.
Have a good week with those new pens!
    Sincerely,
    Gary.

    1. lol don't think its an only Canadian word, but don't hear it very often :) it is one of those words that even if you don't know what it means, its not hared to figure out :)

thanks, plan on playing with them soon :)
