Eagle Owl #12
Bit of work done on the left side of the face and the left side of the beak. I was staring at this scan trying to figure out what was bugging me. Finally figured it out.
Besides lack of shading, the 2 sides of the top of his head are not level. You can see it here in the red circle. Easy enough to fix, but I didn't notice that at all when etching and probably wouldn't have noticed until I went to print it. At least with scanning the plate I don't have to waste ink by making a lot of test prints to see if things are looking right.

ReplyDeleteWonderfully expressive eyes not to mention the lovely fur detail ~ ^_^
ReplyDeleteHappy Weekend to you,
A ShutterBug Explores,
aka (A Creative Harbor)
It is good to scan or photograph our art during the process, for some reason we can see it more clearly than from the original. So glad you will be happy with the fix. It is looking great.
ReplyDeleteVery nice. So glad you caught that early on.

ReplyDeletethank you carol :)
tammie, i usuallu just use mirrors to see mistakes but it doesn't work with etching, you need the lines darkened, but photos/scanning is def a good way to see if anything is wrong
thanks Faye :) and the mistake should be easy to fox with a bit of shading :)
thank you Jean :)
thanks Clare :)
thasnk you Beth for the lovely comment :)

This is wonderful
ReplyDeleteYou really have an excellent eye for detail and critiquing, Jennifer.
I remember being told at art school that until you can "see your work with a critical eye" you will not grow.
This was back when the mirror or upside-down were our only aids ...that and time! Now the monitor shows all!
ReplyDeleteA wonderful Owl portrait in process!
Your eye for detail is excellent! The owl is looking amazing. I also tend to notice things when I look at them scanned or photographed...
