Quack

Image
I think this is a Mandarin duck..goes to check. yep its supposed to be. I wasn't going to draw anything today because my right arm is killing me, and the crazy wind we are having caused the car door hit me in the face, right where the metal is from the fake joint. So I am in a bit of pain but knew that if I missed a day I would probably fall too behind to continue. I thought looking at a photo of a colourful bird would make me happy lol

Left Handed Sketches #32 & #33

Image
Trying to draw more than the just the heads of birds for my 365 challenge, so here is a Cormorant and you do see them around here on the coast sitting on the rocks in the sea but without binoculars they just look like tiny black spots. And even tho I just wrote I want to draw more than bird heads, heres a Crane head lol

I think this bird is a tanager. not sure which one tho. Pretty sure you don't get them here, but you do get a lot of other tiny songbirds, that are very loud in the morning. The " Dawn Chorus " can bugger off when its early in the morning lol

Long Nose

An Ibis for left handed sketch #30. These birds are bright red, might have to paint one once my right arm is not so sore and I can paint again. Or draw again, I will be happy when I an write my name without hurting actually lol

Sunday Sketches

Two more left handed sketches. I find its easier if I just focus on the basic shape outlines, it is much easier to have the drawing look more like what it is supposed to. I guess if I think of learning to draw originally with my right was probably the same, its less frustrating not having a drawing turn out exactly how I would like.  I just don't have the muscle memory for drawing with my left like I do with drawing with my right.  Linking up to Sunday Sketches

Weekly Book Wrap Up

Image
Still reading War and Peace, but its a big bloody book lol Did manage to finish a graphic novel tho. Postal, Vol. 1 by Bryan Hill My rating: 3 of 5 stars Quick easy read about a town founded by criminals for criminals but you can't commit any crime. The art goes well with the story, each character is drawn very differently, unlike with some graphic novels where the characters can look too similar. The story did start out really strong but then just went downhill. A bit predictable, and I felt it was full of stereotypes about criminals and mental health issues. *edit, I figured out what bugs me about this comic, while I liked the character designs, the characters themselves were just really one dimensional* I had to go back and reminds myself how the volume ended, it was forgettable and wouldn't cause me to go pick up any more issues to see what happens. More Alcohol

Image
Was suggested these were too Scottish looking and the more I look at them, I totally agree so back to the drawing board to try to bring in something Canadian to them. Of course when people think of Canada they tend to think of maple leaves, but the only problem with that is that the maple leaf is used on a lot of Canadian alcohol labeling already so can't have something that looks too much like something else already on the market. But now the design does go better with the maple beer idea. I will probably move the text up slightly, I think its a bit too low on the cans. But I do think its a good mix up between Scotland and Canada. I am probably going to use cans for the design but just wanted to see what it might look like on bottles. This project is going to give me more grey hair lol

#27

A Hornbill for todays left handed sketch. Its a happy looking bird for once, but kind of hard to draw with that big curved beak.

#25 & #26 Left Handed Sketches

Image
The above sketch is supposed to be Coot . You do sometimes see them here, hard to miss the solid black colouring, it tends to stand out when on the water. And a confused looking rooster lol Arm is killing me and wish I knew the results from the xray that was done on Tuesday, but earliest will be this Tuesday. One of the xray techs did say don't use the arm if possible. Which could mean a bad thing or its just until the radiologist has gone over the xrays, will hopefully know soon.

When you hear these tapping away at trees it can actually be pretty loud, which is a problem when its right outside your bedroom window lol

Kookaburra Sits in the Old Gum Tree

Does anyone remember singing that song as a kid? I use to sing it all the time. The first time I actually heard a Kookaburra " sing ", it made me jump lol Left handed sketch #23

Sunday Sketches

A couple of happy birds this time lol I really like how the parrot turned out, not a lot of detailed lines but you can clearly tell what it it. I'm trying to draw a lot of birds with my left hand since I do draw or etch a lot of them with my right hand, I want to b able to at least draw them well enough they look like birds if I am stuck using my left to draw with. More Beer Can Mockups

Image
I think I am pretty much done with the front of the cans now, I need to add one or two small pieces of text to the front and then need to do few test prints. Going to put it away for a day and then come back and look at what might need to be changed. It is extremely hard to find cheap blank cans to use for the final product, so I am just using Diet Pepsi cans or Diet Irn Bru cans since they have silver coloured tops. Once the labels are printed I just need to stick them on and hope they look OK. Still need to design the box packaging, but I have some ideas for that already so hopefully doesn't take too long to do.

Number Twenty

Image
Its supposed to be a puffin, if you don't look at it too much it does look like one lol Not bored yet drawing with my left hand, and I will be happy if I make it to 50 sketches, anymore than that will be  bonus.
