Flamingo #2

Image
Feathers, feathers, everywhere. Good thing my pink, white, and purple pencils are new, because I have a feeling I am going to use up a lot of them. I do wish I had a few more different shades of pink, but you work with what you have and combine colours to get what you need :)

August Book Round Up

Image
Managed to read 6 books, which isn't bad, but could be better :p I did start reading a book, Dragonfly in Amber , but stopped before I chucked my Nook away in disgust :p Why is the series so popular? The first one was OK, but this one is just horribly written and the characters are so...stupid :p I found myself constantly shaking my head at the main characters almost every page with them making one bad decision after another. And don't get me started on the main female character, started out a strongish person, but by the second book she almost bends over backwards offering to let the male character beat her....  Onto the books I did finish: 1. Sapphique (Incarceron #2) by Catherine Fisher Second book, starts where the first left off. Most of this book takes place outside of the prison. And just like the first book, I felt that the story was fine, moved at a fast pace when the story was set in the prison, but outside of the prison, the story drags. I ...

Flamingo #2

Image
Left the background for the moment, started to colour the bird. Using coloured paper does save a lot of time, you already have a basic tonal value to the paper. Still have to cover up most of it with the pencils, but you don't have to worry too much about missing a spot :p

Bucket List?

Image
I like the idea having a list of things you want to do before you die, but lately I have been seeing posts and comments on other sites that a lot of people that have MS think that because they have MS they will die young. Yes, in some cases, a person with MS will have a shorter life expectancy then someone without MS. But you want to know how much shorter?? Maybe 10 years . Thats it. Its almost like people say screw it, whats the point? Just let me die already :/ The point is, that even with a crappy diagnoses, and a disease that is unpredictable in how it will effect you, modern medicine has come an amazingly long way in the last 10-15 years. Personally I don't think there will be a cure for probably another 10-15 years, but thats no reason to just give up. There are so many things you can take to lessen symptoms, or slow down the progression of the disease. Yes there are different types of MS which can and are horrible to deal with, and maybe its just me, but I think th...

Flamingo #1

Image
Something a little more colourful than all the brownish cats I've been doing. The background needs another round of solvents to try to smooth it out and then onto the feathers. There is actually a lot of colour besides pink in Flamingos, lots of oranges and yellows.

Music Monday

Another Canadian band, one that had broken up years ago, but back together apparently this year.

Lion Finished

Image
For Sale Yes, the mane is supposed to lopsided :p Now onto something that has some colour to it. Need some colour after working so much with browns lately

Lion update #5

Image
Started to colour the main part of the mane. This hasn't been adjusted with photoshop, so looks really light. This has been adjusted, and is close to the actual work. So spending the time to learn the features of your editing software of choice can really help.

Lion Update #4

Slow and steady.... The paper colour is doing half of the work, but its still taking awhile to colour. Need to get it finished soon, as I go back to college on the 4th and would like to get another piece finished before then. *crosses fingers*

Book Wrap-up For July Part 2

Image
Yeah..the months almost over, but still going to finish reviewing the books I read last month. 6,7,8,9. Red Dragon (Hannibal Lecter #),The Silence of the Lambs (Hannibal Lecter #2),Hannibal (Hannibal Lecter #3,Hannibal Rising (Hannibal Lecter #4) by Thomas  Harris First 2 were good, he should have stopped there :p Part of the appeal about  reading about hannibal the cannibal is not knowing why he does the things he does, not knowing why he thinks the way he does. Sort of ruins the books when you find out. I would probably read these before watching the movies if you haven't seen them already, so then the surprises that happen in the book actually are surprises.  Short summery: Serial killer questioned to help solve crimes, and then you find out about his past in the last 2 books. Can't really say anything else without giving away big plot points. 10 . Rendezvous with Rama (Rama #1...

Twin Beaks

Image
For Sale Finally finished the pair of eagles :) I really like how the background turned out, so will def. be using that technique again. Really thinking of getting this framed if I don't sell it. Would look very nice hung on the wall, (would prefer to sell it of course)

Linocut Sketch?

Image
Sketch for a reduction linocut? Would probably be 5 or 6 colours, unless I totally mess up and I get frustrated and only do 2 colours :p Need to find my cutting tools and no idea where they are. Found the lino, but the cutters are no where to be found, probably be in a pencil box.

Derwent Watercolour Paper with Coloured Pencils

Image
Sue was very nice and sent me a few sheets of the Derwent Watercolour paper to try. I glad I didn't buy any. It could be because I was using polychromos and they are a harder pencil, but I don't really like the paper for coloured pencils. Its hard to get layers to build up, and it took way too long to get to the above image compared to even using matte board. The colours look very washed out, and they don't bend that well.  I am going to try some softer pencils on it probably tomorrow, and watercolour which should work better since it is watercolour paper.

Off to See a Vampire

Image
So every 6 months I either see my MS nurse or I see a neurologist and then get blood taken.I have had so much blood taken, that I don't even bat an eye. Jump in the chair, hold my arm out and point at the vein in my arm. Makes the phlebotomists laugh to see someone so willing to get blood drawn. I wouldn't say I'm willing, but there comes a point when you just stop caring and get it over with. But small scratch my ass! Between having to get tested for Von Willebrand disease , and various surgeries, the sight of blood doesn't bug me. Its like. "oh crap, bleeding.Need a ban-aid", or stitches :p  The only time I have ever really had a problem with getting blood drawn, was when the doctors wanted so much before I was diagnosed. I can remember them taking at least 6 of the little vials, and I was a tad woozy after that. Needed sugar :p Lots of it.

Lion #3

Started work on the mane, which might take awhile since there is so much of it. All of my big cats looked worried lol, no idea why.

Book Wrap Up for July (Part 1)

Image
For this month I read 11 books, and it would great if I could keep up that pace so I meet my goal of 75 books read this year, but I don't see that happening with college starting soon. 1. Incarceron (Incarceron #1) by Catherine Fisher People trying to escape out of a prison that is controlled by an out of control AI system. Outside of the prison, everything has been stopped in time in the 17th century. What I am sure was supposed to be a big mystery, is figured out pretty early in the story, and the main female character comes off as a spoiled brat, which is probably to show how much different her life is from the people in the prison, but I ended up not caring what happened to her. When the story was written in the prison, I really enjoyed it, but then it switched back to outside and I just wanted to go back to reading about the prison world. 2. The Man in the High Castle by Philip K. Dick Set in 1962, its an alternate reality fiction story whe...

Halloween Dragons 2013 #1

Image
Been awhile since I coloured any dragons, so that it was about time. This years Halloween dragons :)

Lion #2

Image
More work on the lion :) Really liking how its looking, not looking forward to colouring the mane tho :p I did try these years ago, and didn't like them but I found one pencil I had not got rid of, and I liked using it, so bought a small set. Normally I would not buy sets, but it was cheap. Will have to do a review of them once I start colouring something :)

Music Monday

Image
I was never really a huge Fall Out Boy fan, but I do like their new album :) (warning to people that don't like seeing naked bodies in videos...beware of boobs :p) I have done almost no art the last 2 days :( Feel ill as a dog, hopefully that passes and I can work on that lion and maybe do some more printing before I have to go back to college.

Back to Making a Mess

Image
After cutting up a lot of paper, it was time to play with my gelli plate :) I had cut up a few horse stencils, need to cut a few more but cutting my finger once already was enough for the day :p I really like how this one turned out :) I will probably take some pencils or ink to it and see what happens. I forgot how much I liked using the plate, and I have more then enough paint right now to make a mess with :)

i need a Title...Can't Think of one

Image
Coloured more of the lion. I am so use to using matte board that its so odd to use paper again. The pencils act completely different, its like having to relearn how to use them. Roll on Sept. 2 and student loan payment so I can buy more polychromos pencils, I need more browns and greys. And some white paper that isn't Stonehenge.

The Day is Almost Over...

Image
so it should be safe to write this :p I am a clutz, falling down tripping over shadows, now I could blame the MS, and often do, but unless I had MS when I was a kid, I think part of it is, I'm just clumsy. Only managed to hurt myself twice today, thats a record. A stair railing that is down in the hall because it was loose, yeah I managed to fall on it, and then of course it fell on my ankle :/ And then I don't know how I did this...managed to pinch the side of my hand in the inside car door handle. Probably would not have hurt as much if it had of been my right hand. But no. Had to be the left and right where my extra finger was, and that area is way more sensitive then a normal hand (of course, doesnt help there is scar tissue(?) moving around that area). And for a laugh, I've posted it before, a picture of said hand, and me in a um,... a lovely dress :p Its a good thing I don't use sharp knives, I might lose a finger and I don't have an extra one anymor...

So Much Art, So Little Time...

Image
I have so many ideas and so much art I could be working on that wouldn't take forever, but instead I go back to using coloured pencils which take forever :p
