Books at a Glance

Image
Various ACEO drawings ready to copy and colour Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip Some people might consider this cheating but I like having the basic composition drawn for the ACEOs that I do. Even if they are from a photograph its easier to have the image drawn the size you need it and then transfer it to your paper instead of stoping and starting over again once you have tried to fit it in the small space. At least this way if I can't find anything to draw I have line art ready to go when needed. So I thought I would take some of the books I have been reading since I started writing them down , (sept, this year) and do a short little book review of them. Very short :p Tess of the d'urbervilles by Thomas Hardy Well that was depressing :/ Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood bit of a mystery to this did she or didn't she story. I do think its interesting that no one really knows what happened to her in the end Eldest by Christopher Paolini Poor man's fantasy story? But can...

Inside Mr.Fuzzy's Head

Image
A dragon sarong that I love, but its too cold to wear here (and its really see through), even during the summer :p Just nice to see colour on grey days like today Sadly no picture of the inside of his brain, but I did see the results of his MRI (all good). Very cool to see the different sections and what is what. You could even see his eyeballs :D *poke* I just thought that was neat. I keep asking to see my MRI but the computer is either down or the Doc forgets. Def. next time I go to the neurologist I am seeing it. When I was first told I had MS they said the computer was busted, just made me think they didn't want me to see it so I wouldn't freak out more. I just want to see it so I know what it looks like. And not everyone can say they know what their brain looks like :p If I get a copy of the picture to post here I will (not the ones with my eyeballs though, that might gross some people out. I couldn't dissect a pig in school, but have no problem looking at someones bra...

Year in Review

Image
Cherries Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip Tutorial this month in my newsletter for this little card No we haven't run out of food :p I ate too much. Sadly no Gerard Butler under the tree this year, but there is always next :p Little ACEOs done in NeoColours and coloured pencils. I haven't drawn a lot these past few days, and now its hard to get back in the habit. I have lot of ideas, but just can't seem to find the time to draw them. Hopefully now I will have the time as we are not doing anything else this year. A lot of people are doing a year in review post, so here is my year in review. I didn't really have any goals laid out for this year but I will probably have a few for next. How did you promote your art? Posting on my blog, updating my site, posting on art blogs. When people asked what I did, I told them I was an artist and would give them cards or direct them to my site What did you do to enhance your online presence ? Update on the Blue Dragon

Image
I am almost finished with the dragon on this. I think I will just leave it alone until the rest of it is painted and then go back and touch up some areas where the paint either doesn't look right or spots that I missed. I'm happy with somethings and not happy with others, nothing too big to make me trash this though. Overhead shot showing the curve of the body. I actually thought that the head would fall off or lean too much to the side when it was baked, but thankfully its still were I put it. I wish I could actually spend more time on the scales but its killing my back working on this and I'm not putting in too much detail. I can spend hours colouring with coloured pencils but after about an hour painting my back starts to seize up. So if I do get into Uni, that def. is going to be a problem. I'm hoping that once this is finished that the sun is shining and I can get some nice pictures outside as the flash of the camera really messes with the colours.

Scottish Word of the Week Dec, 19

Image
Luka messing around in the snow No snow here, but its pretty windy out. The bins are having races down the street again :p The first time Luka saw snow we had to push him out the door. The second time we couldn't get him inside. Looked out the windows and all we could see was flying snow from him running circles around in it :p When we took him for walks, his nose was buried in the snow all the way down to the lake, and all the way back home. He didn't even stop for a cookie, there must have been something really smelly about the snow? He was always an odd puppy. I miss snow, but miss the dog more. Scottish word of the week: 1. plook Answer to the last Scottish word: 1. owergyaan means a scolding or telling off

Thief

This pigeon has been eating on the bird table for the last few days. And while I know he needs food, he is a pig :p First day he ate all the food on the top table and yesterday he ate all the food on the table he is one in the picture. All in on go. See a pig :p I really do have way too much time on my hands when I find things like this. I did write up an end of the year post, but its mostly for me to keep track of things. I think for 2009 I will only make a few art related goal, but not sure what yet. Sew more, and remember to catalogue my art. I did try to do it this year, but I kept forgetting to write things down. I really need to write up a statement to apply to Uni. I just have the hardest time writing about myself positively where I don't either sound like a prat, or coincided. Went to The Meffan today to see their Xmas show. Came to a few conclusions: 1. Mr. Fuzzy hates abstract and conceptual art (I'm not too keen on it either) 2. There is a lot of bad art in this area...

Gummis

Image
New card. Too busy? Or I could just use my little dragon like I have before. New font this time. (the email address on both has been made bigger. Was a little bit too small to read) Gummi Bear ACEOs Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip Blobs of colour that... still look like blobs of colour. But tasty blobs :p

Broken Toes

Image
Untitled Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip Colourful blobs on paper or?? (these aren't done yet) EDM Challenges Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip I haven't actually stapled my toes or my fingers *knocks on wood* (I did get a sewing machine needle through the middle of my thumbnail/tumb itself [not just the nail] in school once though. That hurt). I have broken almost all of my toes. Either falling or running into things (really tall speaker once, and that really hurt, loud crack from running into the speaker). So because they have been broken, and some of the toes multiple times they are a little crooked. My little toes are actually twisted so I am walking on the sides of them, not the bottom. Grosses people out :p Anyone not broken a bone? I got a lovely calendar from Tina in the mail today :D And a fish print from Ingrid :D Postal charges in Canada have really gone up!! o.0 Thank you to you both!

Xmas Lights and laughs

Think your lights this year are crap, well these have probably got you beat (unless of course some of these are yours ;) ) Art tomorrow :D

Virtual Sketch Date for December

Image
Virtual Sketch Date December Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip This months VSD from a lovely photo taken by Stacey . I had intended on doing an ACEO of this, but this week has flown by. So its just a simple little sketch in my little sketchbook. I don't draw buildings that often lol and these crooked ones would fall down if they were real :p Good thing I'm not an architect or a builder :p Check out the VSD blog on Sunday to see everyone's efforts :D And join in next month if you can.

Mr Fuzzy thinks he is king of the kitchen

just kidding, but he can cook pretty well. So he thought he would share some of his successes with you all on a blog, here is a link to the first recipe. Something hot to ward off this freezing weather....brrr! Tuna pasta bake with pepperoni and cheese

Thats A Lot of Burple

Image
Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip A bit more on the scarab. Its looking a bit too pink for me, but can't fix that now. Once the whole thing is coloured I will go back and darken areas if they need it. I think the next scarab will be black and white :p And my dragon is now burple. This is just a base colour, so this colour should only still be left in the shadows and indents of the scales once the scales are painted. The scales themselves are not going to be all the same colour as the paint is only going to be mixed up as needed. I didn't like how the fins looked so painted over them and dabbed the ends of the fins with a lighter aqua. I'm really hoping that the paint will come off the shell :p I know it will come off the rocks, but if it doesn't come off the shell I'm going to have a techno-colour shell :p

Paint Up My Nose

Image
Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip No I wasn't picking my nose :p Went to wipe my cheek forgetting I had a paintbrush in my hand and ended up with and paint blotch on my nose. Good thing it washes off :p And not as toxic as oils. Oh wait *goes to read* nope we're good :) I think the fins are going to get at least 1 more layer of colour sponged on. Either a yellow, or a really yellow green. I am such a messy painter lol When I was painting in school, I didn't have any clothes without paint on them. Looking at the paint and then the laptop, it took all my willpower not to grab a sponge and paint the case :p Its such a blank canvas even with the Halloween stickers on it, it needs colour!

This is....the world's crappiest xmas tree??

Image
This is the crappy tree we got from a store starting with a W, pitiful isn't it.... I mean it was only £5 but....(it looks like its been in the skip twice already :P, like someone recovered it and threw it back, I think it needs put down...actually it already looks dead..ugh > Mr.Fuzzy) So back it went and we got this fantastic German made tree from a store starting with the letter A :-D I would have thought that with a fake tree that the floor wouldn't be covered in "needles". How very wrong I was :p So we decorated the tree in the hall. Pretty much the only place to put it. Blue and silver :) (yes the lights are electric blue....more like radioactive blue, but also enviro friendlyish..LEDS..it feeds the geek in me :P...Mr.Fuzzy...ho ho ho)

EDM Sketches

Image
We put up some lights in the living room. I think it looks so cool. Going to keep them up all year long :p Various EDM Challenges Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip I have noticed that since I have been doing these sketches my sketches have gotten very loose. I'm focusing more on simple lines than lots of detail. Which will come in handy when I need to sketch quickly, but it doesn't make them much to look at. And we got a fake Xmas tree (bah humbug), but its going back as its,...um crap :p Not sure where a new one is going to go, thinking the hallway as its one of the only places that isn't full of stuff. Mostly books and art supplies. I have so much art to do this weekend it isn't funny :/ And I need to get started on a gift drawing, so hopefully that gets started this weekend. I'm hoping for some more snow so that we can go down to the Loch and try to get some nice pictures. No way I'm I going to try to walk around the whole of the Loch (2.5-3 miles) in the snow,...

Is it Dead?

Image
So this is the town's Xmas tree. yeah crap :p And just so you don't think that the back looks any better, well it doesn't :p Looks like someone just threw up the lights on the tree and it looks really dead in person. I'm not even from the town but I'm embarrassed about that tree :/ I love Xmas lights (oh shiny!). Its the only thing I really do like about this time of year. And while the rest of the lights in the town look fine (well the ones that are working), a nicely decorated tree would have been nice. Why spend so much on the tree if it is going to look like this? Get a smaller tree and spend more on the decorations? oh and thanks for all the gifts in the post from yesterday everyone! :D

Another Bug to Squash

Image
Scarab WIP Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip No, I only squish cockroaches (well try to :p), and we don't have any here. There is a huge spider in the outside hallway, but its way out of reach to squish and is keeping any bugs that are alive out of the flat. Houses here on the whole don't have screen in the windows, which I thought was really odd when I first came here. Its odd not to have windows with screens in Canada. So started to colour the scarab today. I wasn't going to burnish this, but I didn't like the texture of the coloured areas so thought blending the layers would look better. It does. :) Going to keep the colour scheme really simple. Only reds and blues, with bit of green used in the shadows to darken the areas. Scarab #? doesn't sound like much of a title :p

I'm Greedy

Image
Well no, not really. This has been making the rounds on Livejournal (my poor neglected LJ :/), so I thought I would post it here, so that other people can see and maybe put it on thier blog. You can leave gifts for people and there are a lot of things to pick. hmm my tree looks really empty right now, might have to give myself a gift :p

Paper Weight?

Image
Baked but still unpainted dragon. :) hmmm might take awhile to paint all those scales lol I must have had some kind of fluff on my fingers or this was really dusty when I put it in the oven (hmm fire anyone? jk. I checked before I baked it), because parts of it are grey. I think I am either going to paint it blue or red with yellow scales but not 100% sure yet. Once it is painted I will take photos of this from every angle. I need to so I can put it in my portfolio. Those are blue beads in the eyes. I didn't actually know if they would survive being baked, but seemed to have not changed at all. *note use glass beads next time :p Was very pretty outside with the frost covering everything. I have to remember to take some pictures if the frost is still here tommorow. I need to learn to knit faster so I can make a really warm sweater. I have this knitted wool coat that I love, but the sleeves are starting to unravel. And well they have been fixed, I don't know how long the fix will...

Car Wash

Image
"Car Wash" Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip "At the car wash Workin' at the car wash, girl Come on and sing it with me Sing it with the feelin' ya'al" Ok I'll stop singing :p I'm not even from the South but I catch myself saying ya'al all the time lol I didn't want to spend a lot of time on this, as I will probably do this bigger in the future. The horse is only about 5 inches tall. I'm thinking life sized next time. ok maybe not :p *if you got my newsletter twice this month. I apologise. Not sure what happened there*
