Still trying to get more practice in with watercolours. Really like the colours in this but prob went a bit too dark again lol

Messing around with watercolours and some Posca pens :)

I'm not going to be doing 30 days of Junicorn but I will prob end up creating a few pieces for it :)

Doodlewash #12 More very quick watercolour messes for Doodlewash. And I mean quick, less than 5 minutes for each of them, takes long to tape them to a board then make them lol Doodlewash #13 Still loosely basing these on flowers from the yard, but mostly just focusing on colour. Doodlewash #14 Doodlewash #15 I made one very bright and very wet piece and then just placed a piece of paper over #14 to get #15. I prefer #15, looks more like a flower petal. Doodlewash #16 Another simple tulip reference :)

Doodlewash #8 Just more messing around with watercolours and just letting the colour wash/water do what it wants while it dries. Doodlewash #9 Doodlewash #10 Not enough white space on the above one, looks too muddy but does sort of look like it could be a piece of fabric. Doodlewash #11 A bunch of very bright tulips :)  

This actually has a very light blue background, but I couldn't get it to show up without really messing up the red colour. Maybe a photo would have worked better than a scan. More yellow :) I thought I might run out of flowers to paint, but there are a few more in the yard trying to come up.

We got new lilies last week. A bit of yellow to brake up all the pink lilies that will be flowering soon.Kind of running out of space in the yard now though lol There are flower pots everywhere. And if I am not around here as much as I usually am, its because I have to write a 2000 to 2500 word essay so I can maybe do a masters course. Fingers crossed but I am probably mad to try to go back to uni lol

Lots of purple for today :) Its a colour I should probably use more of actually, they are hardly used in my set.

More playing with colour. The backyard is looking very green right now and a few flowers look like they are about to bloom. It tends to look green here all year round, even in winter unless things are covered in snow. The trees might be a little bare in the winter but the grass and fields tend to keep looking green and you can still see the different yellow and purple colours on the hills.

I was reading Chris's blog the other day and she mentioned the Doodlewash June 2018 Challenge and I thought it would be a good challenge for the start of summer. I'm not following the prompts, but am sticking to the outdoor fun theme, sort of, by focusing on flowers. The colours of flowers specifically, so none of these little paintings will be realistic at all but sometimes you  just need to  make a mess on paper or canvas :)

Another finished page. Really like how the creature turned out, very boney looking. The little deer looks a little confused lol

Two more finished comic page 6 above and page 4 below. I have started already to edit page 6 in Photoshop by darkening more specific areas but it might need more work before I am done. Not sure if it is easy to see here, but there is supposed to be a creature lurking in the trees. Might have to darken some areas and lighten others to make it more obvious. or maybe its too obvious and will just have to darken the whole thing.

For Sale Finished watercolour for The Virtual Paintout . Its different from what I would do with watercolours, but I like it because its different. I probably should have used gouache, but I don't have enough to make a A3 work. Maybe do a few other small paintings from around the area with it, if I can find some small canvass' in the supply pile (not really a pile, but there are supplies everywhere but somehow I find most of them lol)

I think I am done with this, but I need to let it dry and see what it looks like tomorrow. I thought I had messed up an would have to start again, but I managed to save it. The main problem I have when working with watercolours is I tend to go dark too fast because I am impatient lol And trust me to get dirty brown water all over my clothes.

This month the location for The Virtual Paintout is Cambodia, which of course is where Angkor Wat is. I spent a lot of time "walking" around all of the different temple and grounds, which I thought was amazing since I could never actually walk around there, using google to see a lot of it made me extremely happy. Found this area, " The Goddess Prajnaparamita" and thought it would make an interesting watercolour. More than likely, someone else will draw/paint the same thing, but if they do it will be interesting to see what someone else does with it.  Sketch #171 is a fox. Well, its supposed to be a fox stuffed animal curled up in a ball. I got some coloured pens the other day, so I will be using them instead of just a plain black pen every once and awhile.

So this is the Harris Hawk finished without the pen added to it. Looks OK, maybe a little unfinished to me, but just incase I messed up before taking pen to it I decided to be safe and scan it. Prints For Sale  And after the pen lines. I think this worked well, helped to make the work look finished. And a simple GIF showing the difference.

The watercolour done on the hawk. Its now laying under a bunch of sketchbooks to try to flatten it out so that I can go over it with pen. Maybe went a bit too dark, but the bird is dark and actually a lot darker. On to the next while this one flattens.

A very wet painting. This is only the first layer, should be 2 or 3 more. Might have messed up, but can always try again if I don't like how it turns out. I am still practicing, so can mess up as much as needed. I am going to add ink pen lines to this, so wont be a fully watercolour piece when done. And the wet mess above dried. You can start to see the feather directions on this, but need to add more paint to try to get some more definition and its way too light.

The only thing I don't like about watercolour, is the drying time. I use a lot of water when I use watercolours, so it takes forever to dry. Yes, I could use a hair dryer, but then it dries too fast and you don't get the right look, at least I think that. Its the same reason I don't use oil paints. Besides not being able to use them because they set off allergies, (wear a mask, have a window near by when painting when younger people :p), they take too long to dry for me. Not sure if I mentioned here, but the asthma nurse has said I have Occupational asthma , so can't actually use materials I use to use without wearing a mask or outside. (If it ever stops raining here :p). Told me its actually pretty common in artists, they just ignore it tho :p So don't ignore it lol Pretty much stuck with acrylics, pencils, watercolours and etching plates. But need a window open or a mask when using the inks for the plates.

So this isn't an eagle as I said in the last post , its a hawk. Oops That eye needs some shading and I am going to see if I can make it less orange in colour, but not sure if I can at this stage. This was supposed to be a lot more loose in style, but the detail part of my brain kicked in before I could stop it.
