Throwback Thursday

Image
Two ATCs from 2009. I do remember it was a pain in the butt trying to get that bear not to look green, but he still has a bit of a green tinge to him. And a basic waterfall, I think I was trying out some pencils to see how they reacted on the black paper since some pencils work better than others.

So Much Writing

Image
So this is what I have been doing the last 3 days. Writing an essay on the illustrations in Jules Verne's novels and creating a presentation to go with it. I know this isn't an art course but I couldn't help the artist background creeping in somewhere and my professor did give me the go ahead to focus on the illustrations in early science fiction novels since they are such a huge part to the novels. I don't plan on focusing on art related topics for the other modules, but you never know. You can't spend 7 years in higher education for art and not have it show up again somewhere. One more essay and presentation to write on science fiction and the environment. Surprise, surprise, most of the books and movies are very distopian and depressing.

Weekly Book Wrap Up

The Drowned World by J.G. Ballard My rating: 3 of 5 stars Definitely a book that fits the cozy catastrophe trope. Pretty flat characters, they just exist and seem pretty OK with what has happened to the Earth (the flooding, extremely high temperatures etc). It wasn't a bad book, but it wasn't the greatest either, it just is *shrug* Near the end I was hoping someone was going to get eaten by a crocodile. Life Drawing Finished

Image
I have finished this. I could have worked more on it, but its finding the time too is a bit difficult. For a practice piece I really like how it turned out, but I do need to keep practising.

A couple of Peacock ATCs. The top one is from 2007 and the bottom one from 2009. I really like drawing peacocks, usually on a bigger scale though. The colour combinations are gorgeous.

Life Drawing Practice

Image
OK technically not life drawing since this is from a photo, but I don't have time to take an actual life drawing class, so this will have to do for practice. This need some more refining and then I might use my markers for the shading. I found the photo here . Very useful site if you want to get some practice in drawing the human form.

Weekly Book Wrap Up

The Sheep Look Up by John Brunner My rating: 5 of 5 stars Well that was depressing lol I really did enjoy it though. Thought it was well written, the jump cut style editing and writing worked well to get across how messed up things are and the panic people have about what is going on. Definitely a very extreme example of what could happen to the earth if people don't start paying attention to pollution and how we treat the planet.
