Tiger Reflection

Image
Copyright 2007 Jennifer Phillip Close-up of the tiger reflection in the ugly stage with coloured pencils. Most of the details are filled in, just need to darken a few areas but I am not going to do that until I get the water finished and the reflection covered in blue. I don't want to spend time on every little detail when in the end it is going to be covered by other colours so it looks like water. Next step is actually finishing the water, which is probably going to take 10-20 layers *cries* :-p Technorati tags: coloured pencil , colored pencil , art , Tiger

Banner Idea

Image
Copyright 2007 Jennifer Phillip The weekend was really quiet due to a really bad sinus headache, so nothing was done artwise, actually not much was done besides trying to avoid looking down. Worked a bit on the tiger picture today, but I forgot how many layers Stonehenge paper takes to get dark colours after the last few pieces of art I finished were on the Canson paper. So it will be a long time before it is done and I can post it online. I do really like Stonehenge for graphite work, has a very nice soft look when finished. I really have to try and remember to do more pencilwork on this paper. The above was drawn for another idea for a website banner. Now that my tablet is working again I will probably just use it to colour the piece, probably quicker than coloured pencils (thats the idea at least). And I just want to pet our new scanner. Its so nice not to have to mess with a picture in photoshop for sometimes hours, and instead just scan and put the image online almost right away. ...

Let's Go for a Swim

Copyright 2007 Jennifer Phillip 10.5 by 13 Inches Stonehenge Paper Photo of current work in progress. Taken indoors so the lighting is not the best. I worked for just over 6 hours on this today and its is going to take many more hours to complete. I wasn't going to post it because it is in the ugly stage that most coloured pencil work gets when only a few layers have been applied, but I personally like seeing artwork in the beginning stages so I can see how other artists work. Even though I will admit I hate posting my own work in this early stage because I usually dislike the way it looks. Got the basic background laid down. Going to finish it once the tiger is complete so I know where to change the values on the floating leaves and the actual background colour. The reflection is not turning out to be as hard as I thought it was going to be, still lots to do on that too and the rest of the piece. And even though I know better than to drink around artwork, I opened a can of pop an...

Sugar Sugar Sugar

Image
I'm pretty much updating because I'm full of sugar (have to remember not to eat chocolate so late, but its so hard) and can't sleep. Just finished watching Crufts for today, and I really want a puppy now. Another one of this breed would do nicely :) (its guess the breed game! which might not be that hard actually) Seeing all those different breeds of dogs really makes me want to draw them all. (I would probably have to live on chocolate and never sleep again to do it before I go completely grey, but might be fun to try) Been drawing the last 2 days. Took most of yesterday to draw a single picture, who's idea was it to try to draw a reflection in water? (probably mine. My eraser saw a lot of work yesterday) After transferring it onto Stonehenge paper, I have made a start to it but not enough to scan or enough to take a picture. Should have an art update tomorrow if all goes well. Went to a few stores today trying to find anything suitable to use as a drawing board but n...

Pot of Gold

Image
Copyright 2007 Jennifer Phillip 3x3 Inches Graphite in a Moleskine Sketchbook Well its supposed to be a pot of gold, but it looks more like a pot of cereal (still, it was either that or a mug of green beer). After a failed attempt at a landscape, I decided to quickly sketch out a dragon for St.Patrick's Day. Probably just put this on an art card to colour it. And I can't draw cute things, when I try they always end up looking evil in some way. Technorati Tags: dragons , Sketches

Copyright 2007 Jennifer Phillip Coloured Pencil on Stonehenge 2.5 by 3.5 inches I'm craving donuts now (or doughnuts if you prefer, I'm so used to seeing it spelt donut). Even after working at Tim Hortons (Canadian donut and coffee restaurant chain) and seeing donuts all day and night, they are my weakness. Especially the ones covered with icing that sticks to the roof of your mouth. Thinking about setting up an Ebay account to sell the art cards that I produce and bigger pieces eventually. Once I have a few more drawn I will probably set some auctions up. Can't hurt to try, and have nothing really to lose but a few bucks for auction fees. (and if I make any money it can help towards a purchase of a better scanner that doesn't butcher scanned images) Technorati tags: coloured pencil , colored pencil , ACEO , art

An Apple a Day Finished

Image
Copyright 2007 Jennifer Phillip Derwent Coloursofts on Stonehenge 5 by 4 inches Finished the apple from yesterday. The first one is not burnished and should have had a few more layers, but the paper would not take any more colour. The second, is after I used a colourless blender on the first, which went on over the Coloursofts fine. I really just wanted to see how the colours blended together, wasn't too worried about what the apple looked like in the end. Conclusion: I like the Coloursofts, but not on stonehenge paper. I can't seem to put down as many layers with them as I can with the Prismas, so I will probably try a similar experiment on different paper. The pencils didn't break once ,were easy to sharpen, and blended together well. Dispite the price being more and a colour range that needs some work, I would probably switch to the Coloursofts when my Prismas run out (not for awhile), just because they are easier for me to get my hands on when needed. And this should b...
