Snow on Palm Trees

The weathermen were right 2 days in a row. Rain, sleet and then snow today. The reflections on the palm fronds are the snow settling. It didn't last long, but it was pretty while it did.

Little bird trying to stay out of the snow and stuff his face. There was probably more then 2 dozen birds on the table and ground at one point but they were moving around too fast for me to get a good count. A few squabbles with the Black Birds trying to steal the peanuts from the Sparrows but everyone took off when the pigeon showed up again :p

This weeks Scottish word:

1. joco

Answer to last weeks word:

Lovely little bird, we have black birds that bully the smaller ones too and steal all the food. Nasty weather!!

  4. It just makes me laugh out li=oud seeing those palm trees with snow all around them. I had no idea there were palms that could grow in areas that have real winters.

The little bird looks quite grateful to have found a source of yummy foods.

  5. Snow on palm trees... perfectly captures the dreary day. Your little bird doesn't look too unhappy though.

  6. Oooh, it looks very blizzard like...the only snow has been on the hills so not so bad. In fact the sun is out today, thank goodness, I really hate January. I have a definate case of the January blues right now.
I struggle to get the birds at the back of our house, we really don't get very many although there are loads in the area. You have given me the idea to hang a feeder in the front tree as well.

  7. Awwwww, how cute the little birds are. How do the palms hold up against continuous snowy conditions? I would have thought they wouldn't like it at all being tropical plants/trees.

  9. How strange to see snow on palm trees! Does this happen often I wonder? I'm sure the birds are not that thrilled with it if it's a rare occurrence.

  13. with so many Blackbirds in the area, it looked like a scene from a Hitchcock movie one day lol

I like watching them too. Always brings a smile to my face to see them flying around :)

Not really a real winter. I know the palm trees wouldn't last a day in the winter in Ontario, but its been so mild here they are thriving. I think the lowest the temp has gotten was -4C

No he didn't look too happy with the weather, but kept coming back to gorge on the food :D

It did look a bit like a blizzard for about 10 minutes and then the snow slowed right down. By the time February is half over I'm def. going to be sick of winter. The birds were always in the back ground but now with the bird table they spend most of their time in the front. John's dad making the bird table out of the tree he cut down was a great idea :)

I would have thought the palm trees would not have survived here, but winters have been getting milder and milder I've been told. seem to be growing pretty well

    thanks tweed :) try again?

Doesn't happen that often, it snowed I think 3 times last winter and probably not going to snow that much this winter *knocks on wood*

well a guy could be joco if thats a hint?
