Know When to Give Up

Some art you just can't finish and you can't fight it or you will get nothing done. There really isn't that much wrong with this right now, besides being boring, but I think that is the main reason I just don't want to finish it. Not everything works out when you create.

And the finished drypoint plate of the 2 boats. Really wish I had a press right now so I could use ink with it, but hopefully I will be able to print it on Thursday.

  1. What materials are you using for your drypoint?

And yes, I've been there many times. In the struggle, I sometimes don't pick up on boring being the reason til I've sunk hours. Sometimes I even get to the point where it's finished and I realize it's boring... LOL! Other times, I come back months later with a rescue. Hmmm....

  2. plexi glass for the plates and a sharpened steal scriber for the etching tool. Since its metal its easy to sharpen and its pretty long so should last awhile :)

  5. Could you go all crazy/mixed media to make it not boring? I do know what you mean - and I have certainly abandoned things for that reason.

  6. Not everything is meant to be and some things need to sit on there own for awhile. When you come back to them, inspiration strikes and you know what to do. Some things need to be trashed instead of saved as well. However, I think your peacock head is quite lovely right now.

You need to create that bottlejack press! I have a steel scribe and love it, cuts through a plate like a hot knife through butter.

    1. I know, I need to rush on building a press lol especially since I wont have the use of a press soon
the scribe works great and john took a grinder to one end so there are different sharp sides with different points to them now

  7. 'boring' = time to put it aside (out of sight) for a few weeks (or months) and unearth it later. All sorts of things happen in between, new ideas, new techniques, or yup, it's boring, by then you'll know.
