Clouded leopard #4

I have spent the last 20 minutes staring at this wondering what was bugging me about it. It is the eyes Well, not really the eyes themselves, it is more the markings around the eyes. They are wrong for the angle of the head. The eyes themselves are different sizes, but thats an easy fix with black, not so sure if I can fix the other problem so it doesn't bug me enough that I still finish this.

I have made slight changes since this photo and will have a look at it tomorrow with eyes that haven't been staring at it all afternoon.

  1. I think it's looking great! Without direct comparison, it looks fine to me.

    1. thanks Lisa :) Its close to the photo, and I never want a direct copy, just something looked off with this :)

  2. I have the most trouble with 3/4 profiles, the furthest eye looks almost full on, the closer eye 3/4 profile. It looks to me like the brow ridge on the further eye should be obscuring a bit more of the eye. Try a scrap of paper (covering half, etc.). Great stuff, as always.

  3. it is amazing how realistic this looks. I don't mind the eyes being a little off...seems natural somehow, and I didn't notice until it was pointed out.
    You really are gifted.

  4. I've been following all the comments. Interesting, because no one 'saw it' while it was progressing (I didn't) and, I am wondering, was it the photo? Could be. Yep, put it away. You will probably see the solution later, a few days later. My Dynamo portrait is like this (unfortunately, I couldn't 'fix it' but it's on the wall anyway (made her forehead too short)).

    1. It is very odd that I didn't notice "it" until now. Normally something like that would jump out at me in the line drawing. Yeah could be the photo. Its in the box of unfinished work under the futon for the moment :p
