Barn Owl Upate #2b

Image
First layer of colour on the Barn Owl. Very rough and loose, just to get the basic tone down. Very subtle colour blending, even in a close up its kind of hard to see. And what it looks like right now, might get more done if I don't go to bed lol Very odd hand, I need to practice more. But I past the half way mark in my challenge and didn't notice and I a pretty shocked I have managed to get this far with it.

Shiny

Image
So for our self portrait we didn't actually have to do one of ourselves, we could do a favourite/memorable place or an object that represents ourselves. This is/was down by a dock near Dads, Lake Erie a few minutes walk from his house. I say was, since a dam burst a few years ago, wrecked a lot of the area, not too mention there was a lot of fish laying around, so have no idea what it really looks like now. Shiny from the varnish to try to protect the paint, not this shiny in person lol

Iceberg Ahead!

Image
Sort of Landscape/Seascape painting done in 3D I wish I could have made it bigger, 3 times this size at least but would have been a pain in the butt to move around and I'm going to have a hard enough time at this size trying to find a place to put it lol. I need to put a coat of matt varnish/medium on it to try to tone down the shine a little bit, it really sparkles when the light hits it, maybe a it too much sparkle.

Something Different from Me

Image
This is for the mixed media class in college, a sculpture thingy :p Shapes from making a mind map about MS cut up with stencilled on words from the mind map. The words either have to do with symptoms, types, signs or medication you can take. The wire allows the shapes to wobble like a person with MS can. See I can be all arty farty  when I need to :p   I have no idea what I am going to with all of the stuff I have made for this class, its either huge, or heavy so have nowhere to really put it.

Blue Brain

Image
And more art done from my MRI.Simple painting, but I still managed to get paint all over my hands, and all over the desk. I am not a painter :p The board was actually painted a Neon orange, but it didn't scan very well, and even after messing around in Photoshop, it doesn't look right, so I am crossing my fingers there is enough light tomorrow to get a good photo to show the colours properly.

Trying Something New

Image
Still with the scratchy rough style that I am really enjoying, but this time with a palette knife :)

Storm

Image
The horses from last week needed something. They looked a little too sparse and just meh. The teacher suggested adding some colour with soft pastels, and I think it worked really well. The bit of colour brings out the horses more and it looks more like a snow storm now :)

Seeing Stripes

Image
The class went to Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design last Tuesday to the open day to have a look at some portfolios of students that were excepted this year. Made me realize 2 things; 1. I really, really need to use my sketchbooks more 2. I have no chance in hell of getting in Well no, I could, but with so many people applying to the uni, and with not a lot of places, it is hard to get in. So I have to apply to other places to, but that means a move if I got into any of them. Working on my sketchbooks is a bit easier to deal with. Just have to remember to have one with me at all times, and if worse comes to worse, draw with blood :p Still practising painting. The Zebra eye still needs eyelashes and the whole thing needs some value changes, but its coming along well :) And it sort of goes with the horse theme I've chosen, hmmm maybe I should change the theme to equines....

Creative Space

Image
Todays creative space was painting again....and another very loose painting. I can't decide if this change in my style is a good thing or a bad thing, but I like it :) This still needs work, but I'm not sure really what to do with it. For more creative spaces, head here : )

A Storm is Coming

Image
Finished this last night, just need to find a frame for it now. I want to find one like I used here, but it all depends on price, the joys of framing :/ At least it isn't huge and wont cost a fortune to frame. I think I have found a style that I like when painting. Its not really realistic, but not really that abstract. It works for me tho, I think, well at least I am not saying that I hate painting any more

Storm Coming??

Image
(blagh, hate taking photos this late :/) This still needs work, but I am happy with the way it looks at the moment. Its not done in my usual style, its much more loose and abstract than I would normally do, but I still like it. Needs some highlights and lightening in some spots and work done on the sky, but I'm going to try to leave it alone for a day and then work on it again.

Creative Space

Image
I have said it before, and will probably say it again; I am no painter. But having said that, practice does obviously help, since I like the way this is looking right now. I like how the highlights of the horse are pretty much all of it you can see and the rest merges into the background. I must be in a blue phase with all the blues I keep using :p For more creative spaces, head here :)

Blue

Image
*stupid flash :/ but the colours are more true with it on :/* I will be the first to admit that I am not a painter, I think its the unpredictability of the paint I don't like. But I do like how this turned out. Its very simple but I think it works well :) If I could only use pallet knives when painting I think I would enjoy it more (or my fingers. but painting with oils and using your fingers is frowned on :p)

Wheres the fire extinguisher ?

Image
Painting class today and things were going so well; Nice bright colours, a sense of movement to the painting and then I went and did this; Made a big mess :p It still needs some paint, but I should have just left it alone. meh, can always paint over everything if I really end up not liking it.

On Fire?

Image
This is actually square and huge! o.0 I have no idea where it is going to go when its finished. On the ceiling maybe?

Going to Make a Painter out of me yet....

Image
well maybe not :p I will be the first to admit, I am not a painter. Give me a pencil or some ink and I can draw almost anything. Hand me a brush with some paint and you might be lucky to have any of the paint actually end up on the canvas and not in my hair or up my nose :p But that is one reason I am taking the painting class, to get practice at painting, and fingers crossed have something at the end I will not be completely embarrassed to hang on the wall. I had some oil painting lessons years ago (I think I was around 12 o.0 ack that makes me feel old :p), but I got so frustrated with the paint I threw the brushes down and just used my fingers. Things worked a lot better after that lol For some reason the teacher was a little pissed off I was using my fingers with the paints, hmm couldn't be that some were toxic could it? :p I have a few weeks to work on this and the other painting on the huge canvas, so will have updates every once and awhile so we can all laugh at my paint...

Update on the Blue Dragon

Image
I am almost finished with the dragon on this. I think I will just leave it alone until the rest of it is painted and then go back and touch up some areas where the paint either doesn't look right or spots that I missed. I'm happy with somethings and not happy with others, nothing too big to make me trash this though. Overhead shot showing the curve of the body. I actually thought that the head would fall off or lean too much to the side when it was baked, but thankfully its still were I put it. I wish I could actually spend more time on the scales but its killing my back working on this and I'm not putting in too much detail. I can spend hours colouring with coloured pencils but after about an hour painting my back starts to seize up. So if I do get into Uni, that def. is going to be a problem. I'm hoping that once this is finished that the sun is shining and I can get some nice pictures outside as the flash of the camera really messes with the colours.

Thats A Lot of Burple

Image
Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip A bit more on the scarab. Its looking a bit too pink for me, but can't fix that now. Once the whole thing is coloured I will go back and darken areas if they need it. I think the next scarab will be black and white :p And my dragon is now burple. This is just a base colour, so this colour should only still be left in the shadows and indents of the scales once the scales are painted. The scales themselves are not going to be all the same colour as the paint is only going to be mixed up as needed. I didn't like how the fins looked so painted over them and dabbed the ends of the fins with a lighter aqua. I'm really hoping that the paint will come off the shell :p I know it will come off the rocks, but if it doesn't come off the shell I'm going to have a techno-colour shell :p

Paint Up My Nose

Image
Copyright Jennifer Rose Phillip No I wasn't picking my nose :p Went to wipe my cheek forgetting I had a paintbrush in my hand and ended up with and paint blotch on my nose. Good thing it washes off :p And not as toxic as oils. Oh wait *goes to read* nope we're good :) I think the fins are going to get at least 1 more layer of colour sponged on. Either a yellow, or a really yellow green. I am such a messy painter lol When I was painting in school, I didn't have any clothes without paint on them. Looking at the paint and then the laptop, it took all my willpower not to grab a sponge and paint the case :p Its such a blank canvas even with the Halloween stickers on it, it needs colour!
