Spiky

Image
Another 3D dragon. You start with a ball and then build up the imge from there with the simple tools it gives you. I do plan this summer to use the better program I have but will def. have to look at a few tutorials to get my head around it. I forgot to save progress shots while getting to this point, will try to remember next time. Gave him a few spines and a bit of a neck so its not a floating head lol Looks really big from this angle :)

Back to the Draft Horse

Image
Its been awhile since I worked on this Draft horse and since I had nothing else to do, thought I probably should get some work done on it. Slowly building up the neck area, need to darken it slightly. Then onto the tack, which hopefully will not take that long. And hopefully its not another 6 or more weeks before I work on it again :p

Small Draft Horse Update

Image
Almost done with the body of the horse and then onto colouring the tack. Hopefully get the body finished this weekend but depends on if I get some research for Uni finished first. (Which includes watching the last of the Daredevil episodes I have left :p).

Snowy Owl #2

Image
Need to add more shading to its eyes, but coming along slowly. So I spent my day at Uni watching Netflix for a project lol Very odd, feels like you are doing something you shouldn't be for school :p

Snowy Owl #1

Image
The start of a Snowy Owl etching :) This is going to be on one of the plates that Rolina sent me since there is less chance of the plate snapping taking it back and forth to Uni so I can work on it at lunch. Looks like a very angry bird :p

Draft Horse Update #4

Image
I need to think of a title for this besides "Draft  Horse". I did say I was going to try to get this finished by now, but I took a day and a bit off of work since I figure I go back to Uni next week and will be very busy soon so should take a bit of a break from work. Need to darken the ears a bit now that I see a photo of it, but other than that, really liking how it is looking. Probably just jinxed myself now by saying that lol

Draft Horse Update #3

Image
Small update on the draft horse. Hopefully get more finished tomorrow and get a scan of it instead of a photo at 10:30 at night when the lighting is crappy :p Need to add a bit more Port colour to the muzzle to give it some more pinkish colour, but not too much that his nose is bright pink.

Sunday Sketches

Image
Very quick sketches of dragons done in Corel Painter 2015 (love this program). Just some random dragon heads lol Not sure what is going on with the lower right one, looks a little bug eyed :p Simple layout sketch for a dragon that is going to have the colouring of a fish. I had this idea at the beginning of summer to do a whole series of dragons with the colourings of tropical fish and of course now that summer is only a week from ending I finally get started with the idea lol So I guess they will sort of look like Sea Snakes but with dragon heads and fish colourings, even tho some of the Sea Snakes do have some really pretty patterns to them.

Draft Horse Update

Image
Coming along slowly mostly due to my fuzzy vision. This is easy to work on since I can just work on one section and move on to the next, but having to stop frequently due to messed up vision is getting frustrating.  The muzzle still need some shading and then I can start to work on the ears :)

Graphitint Horse

Image
Started to colour the draft horse from yesterday. You can leave the Graphitants dry, but I prefer them after water is used on them. You can go over them again after they are dry, but its sometimes hit or miss how well it works depending on your paper. This is a 140lb paper so should be ok and survive most abuse I throw at it. 300lb would be better but I don't have any of that weight that is hot pressed. And smoother papers I find work better with these pencils.

Untitled Horse

Image
I don't really have a title for this yet, but I have at least figured out how I am going to try to finish it. Going to use my Graphitints, so graphite, but if I want I can use water on them. Its not 100% correct, the tack had to be modified slightly, but if I wanted 100% I would have just traced a printed copy of the photo. Nothing wrong with doing that, just felt like drawing a horse rather than tracing one. And yes, I don't have a problem when a person traces an image, skill still shows in how the image is finished. Yes, I do think a person should have at least basic drawing skills, should know colour theory and walk before they run when it comes to art. Nothing will help a person with finishing a piece of work if the basics are not there first. But tracing can be another tool to help those skills develop if used right and not abused. Nothing beats practicing drawing what is actually right in front of you.

Sunday Sketches

Image
I haven't decided if I am going to paint this, use graphite or coloured pencils once I have it drawn out. Leaning towards graphite since its been awhile since I have used normal pencils for anything. Will decide once I finish the line art and once I find out what paper I have left to use. Linking to Sunday Sketches :)

After a Hard Days Work Update

Image
This is going to take even longer than normal lol Working on an etching seems to make my eyes worse, so this is probably going to be a few extra weeks in the making. My left eye does seem to be getting better, able to shut it completely now for a few seconds, but working on anything with a lot of detail, seems to make it worse. I actually thought I had really messed this up the other day, but getting back to the tack outline today, realized I can fix what I messed up. Normally I wouldn't etch areas I am not going to work on next, but I needed to know where the tack lines were so I can work on the horses body. And I really need to fix that ear, looks so odd to me right now lol

Luka #4? #5?

Image
The ear isn't done, almost but still needs a bit of shading. Hopfully I am going to get this finished tomorrow, but that depends on whether I also work again on the summer project we have due the second week we come back. We have to write a 2000 to 2500 essay the first semester. I'm screwed lol I have no idea how to write an academic essay properly. What saved my butt with the last one was the research and the bibliography. Research has never been my problem, its writing it all down the "proper" way that is :p

Awww

Image
Looking cute. As cute as puppies are tho, no way I am getting another one :p Too much energy for me.

Rotti #2

Image
Update on Luka. Pretty happy with it at the moment. The eye is only a centimeter in size, so hard to really get any detail in it, must not work so small again lol its difficult to get any detail done. I should have done this on A3 paper so that the dog was bigger but I don't have any big pieces of the Fisher 400 paper left, and can't get anymore until my student loan comes in.

Rotti #1

Image
Started a drawing of the Rottweiler puppy we had in Ontario, who is still going at 10 at my dad's. Moving a little slow but still moving. Pastels on the background since using coloured pencil on the background would eat up the whole pencil. I am going to use coloured pencil again for the dog tho, easier to get detail and I have pencils I need to use up. Cropped the kitten, looks much better now. You win some, you lose some. Part of being an artist, you learn and move on and hopefully improve :)

Kitten Update

Image
I really wanted to get this finished today but my vision has gone too blurry to continue. And now when I look at this, all I see are mistakes so don't want to finish it lol The eyes, while I like how they are coloured, look very odd shaped, which is something I should have noticed earlier. The thing is, they match up the photo, so either the cat has odd eyes or I messed up somewhere in the drawing. Oh well, I will finish it since its almost done, and then on to the next one. Or I could just crop the image like this, which I actually like a lot, so maybe I wont finish the image. Just crop it and call it finished :)

Grey Scale

Image
About half done with the kitten and the rest of her face is pretty much black so shouldn't take that long to colour. And a grey scale version which clearly shows that her forehead needs darkening and this needs a bit more shading on the cheekbones but I'm not sure if the paper will take anymore pencil.

After a Hard Days Work #3

Image
I almost gave up on this because I wasn't liking how the ear was looking, but seeing this here, its fixable with a bit more shading. The mane is making my hand go numb from the pressure I need to use to get the dark lines and it needs to go darker still.
